Default Hellen Fishing Boat (Build Thread)

So this is my first ABS/Wood combo build. Before this, I have only done a Lindberg PT 109 and Nitro boats.

I think I did okay so far, for my first time. I am trying to pay attention to detail. I finished off the inside of the cabin, I added port holes in the doors, and I am putting figures on it as well.

Will post more as it gets built.

Your Hellen looks fantastic! I have one in the box that I'll be working on next fall. I'm currently looking for a suitable motor and ESC ... what are you using? Also, Can you share where you found the skipper and the mate? I hope you will post some more pictures as you finish her.

Cheers

The skipper is actually a G Scale figure for shop forman. I took his clip board off, and left the coffee cup in his other hand. I put the clip board on the shelf of the cabin. I got the forman and the dog from a guy on eBay stores called GScale Larry.

The guy sitting with dog, I got from another eBay G scale seller. I also have 2 more figures, one playing harmonica, and another wiping his head like it is hot.

The Forman and dog came painted, while the rest I have to paint myself.

If you need actual links, just ask and I can find them on eBay.

.........and you always need to have some beer when doing these kits! [8D]
The key, is knowing when you had too many and stop building! [&:]

Beautiful work! Is it a kit or scratch-built?

Both of you guys have done such a nice job building these it makes me want to get one. I told myself I couldn't buy any more kits until I cleared my bench of current projects. We will see who wins this arguement. lol

I tell my wife that since I am retired I can build what I like because it makes me happy. I do keep working on the other models but more to perfect what I have already done. Funny how much you can learn by reading others posts on how they build. One of my builds is a Thompson Trawler that I have been refining my build processes. I don't even think Dumas makes it anymore. I am down to the hull painting part if it will ever stay warm enough.

Here's my effort at building a Hellen. I built it a couple of years ago and really like the way it runs. We have four or five of them in our club (emyc.org).

ColdRolled....very nice, just like box art, with a little touch here and there.

I kinda went off and did what I felt like I wanted on mine.

Motor, I am thinking a Graupner 500....not too fast and I will probably use a simple Tamiya ESC as I am a Tamiya man from the heart!

I was almost thinking of using a 400 motor as I want it to be to scale.

Any suggestions on motors would be great..........Keep in mind, I want scale speed.

The ESC I used is the Msonik4 Marine15A and the motor is a Graupner 720BB. I also like scale speed but I use a faster motor because sometime in our club (emyc.org) we have twenty or thirty boats on the water and you need the speed to keep you out of trouble.

I think I will stick with the 500, as it will be more scale speed and still have enough emergency umhhhhhh!
