Hot To Water Proof Wood?
Hello all I am building some scale barges and I was wondering how can I water proof my wood before I paint it? I also need to know what kind of paint I need!
Thanks Folks

RE: Hot To Water Proof Wood?
Get a gallon of Watco or similar clear laquer.
2-3 heavy coats of that and you'll be ready to paint.
A gallon is under $30 and lasts a long time.
Use in well ventilated space or outside, the fumes are heady.
Don't use as it a clear coat, it reacts with most other paints, dissolves foam, etc.
I got my last gallon at a home supply store (Menards) for $20-25 IIRC.
For a non-toxic alternative, water based poly or regular polyurethane, but that
takes quite a while to dry and has become sort of expensive.
PS Paint, hard to beat Krylon or Rustoleum for price and availability.
I used to use Rustoleum brush on paint on my scale boats frequently.
(I have not worked on a boat in a long while)

Baker,
The closest Menards to you is Springfield, Ill. then Effingham. There was some talk last year of building one over in Faiview Heights but I have yet to see one.
