Default the ORCA is done

Here are few pictures of my rendition of the ORCA, icluding some in it's carrying box. The Orca was scratch built from a single 2 X 4 using plans by Pat Trittle.

It is powered by a single Master Airscrew .05 motor through a 3:1 gear reduction and runs on 9.6 volts. The radio is a Spectrum dx5e. Searchlight
and running lights operate and the gauges on the instrument panel are also illumninated. Later I may add a horn.

I haven't been able to run yet (except in the Jacuzzi) as we have three feet of snow in Pennsylvania.

Hi Commodore,

You did a beautiful job on the Orca. How long is this boat and what scale is it?

Thanks. I am pleased with how it came out. I may put in a few more pictures.

The boat has a lot of handmade details. The double blocks on the rigging were handmade and operate as does the cover on the exhaust pipe. The fighting chair ismade of brass tubing, that was bent and soldered and the cushion is actually thin foam rubber, so it comfortable.

I think overall length is about 36 inches, beam is about 8 inches. Scale is 1"=1foot.

Hi Commodore,

That is a nice size for that boat!

Once you sail it, do keep us posted with some lake pics.

Can you post more pictures? I'd also like to check out how you tackled the fighting chair detail.

ThanX and best of luck with your new boat!

-Rich.

I know in the movie the ORCA was a wreck, but I wanted a nice clean looking model. The concept is what the ORCA might have looked like new.

I didn't include the gear from the movie either, scuba tanks, shark cage etc. But you are right, a chum bucket would be nice. I will add some fishing gear and boat hooks. Sometimes it is hard to decide when to stop adding detail, if you over do it, a model can look "junked up".

I have thought about some figures, but I am more inclined to look for and R/C shark, maybe I will attach some barrels to it and have it chase me around.</p>

I saw ORCA, and said "it's about time somebody built one" (though i was hoping it would be weathered, it's nice to think that the one in the movie at one point looked like this). Very impressive, and as a Die-Hard JAWSfan i give it 2 thumbs way up.
