Hello guys/gals:
I kind of lurk around here but am mostly a model airplane guy. I do have a few boats...6 gas and few electric "scale" types.
We went camping. I brought the "scale boats" . One is a really cool model of a swordsman that I got when I was 8 (I am 46 now!) The other is a billings "phantom" that is the wifes boat that I built last year...and the third is a dumas cabin cruiser of some sort that I bought at an auction...well anyway....
'
I let one of the older generation run the swordsman that runs pretty fast (well it was a racer/cabin cruiser)...and she did GREAT(I have seen younger people pick up RC fast but never an older 65 year old)...and I could tell she was hooked. Well, she was since her husband approached me and asked me to come up with a boat for her for their anniversary...
They live in a trailer...so building is not really an option...so I went looking around at ready to run boats...I looked at the Volere and the bigger runabout that the same company makes...I was totally impressed with the volare's outside.....wow does that finish look thick. I was semi-impressed with the bigger boat...but it had aluminum tape on it that looked kind of "cheesey".
Ok, long story short...is the volare a good boat?...good running gear..?...good for a beginner? I want something that is low maintenance...(the hubby has built model cars and was really looking at the drive trains so I think he will do ok as a maintaince engineer...(he ran the boat also some the next time I was out there)...
thanks for your help.
Steve

I have the pro boat runabout, very nice boat. The volere is also a good boat, make sure to get a good speed control and brushless motor.I got rid of the stock radio and got the 2.4 system due to the freqency problems I have seen with boats and cars.Runabout has problems with the wood slats cracking, mine is only a few months old and the side of it has split.Just used epoxy to fix it.Cant really say anything bad about proboat products,Good luck

Wow, thanks for the reply.
Actually I ended up buying one for them. It is really a very beautiful boat (for an arf of course), a little fast (not too bad), and if run slowly takes on a bit of water. But other than that it looks like a pretty good boat. I think she was pretty happy with it...
