Today I finally glued the deck onto the hull.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1912089

While that was drying I took a few liberties because I'm allowed to do that,:D and worked on the keel/rudder area. This is what I came up with.

And I built a smoke stack.
Two pieces of 1/8" ply for the internal frame, top and bottom and a couple of sticks holding everything together.
The brass tubing goes all the way through to the cabin area to provide a little more airflow.

Been away from RCU for a few days and tried to get on tonight, What a pain to get to the forums.
Anyway I have been very busy the last week or so, from moving the propeller business to a new shop and getting that all set up to boat building.
So that's see where we left off. Oh yes, the smoke stack.
I then cut out the sides above the deck and mounted those. Not sure what they are called.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1916121http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1916122

Next I mounted the pilot house.

finished up the rear of the pilot house which would be over the engine room. From the looks of the plans I have, these were some sort of port hole attached to a hatch that could be opened. I decided to leave them open and use brass farrels that I found in the plumbing dept at ACE Hardware. This will provide a good amount of air flow out of the hull to help cool the motor since it is directly below the opening.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1916125
Once that was done I made up some grab rails out of 3/32 brass tubing. The side that has the split rail will also get a hatch installed.
And I mounted the engine room hatch with magnets.

Then I made up a tow hook. This is all made from stuff I had laying round the garage.

Made up a couple of doors and hinged them with 1/2" piano hinge.
My plan right now is to put the on-off switch in the door.

And started to put a few coats of paint of the different parts to see how the color is going to work.

That's about it for now. I have to order some watertight doors and a few hatches and bollards.

Wayne,

You didn't let your Labor Day weekend go to waste in the slightest, assuming you did all of this over the weekend that is. You've done some very nice work on your tug. She can't be very far from sea trials. Some detailing and a name across her fantail.

I agree, navigating RCU Forums is a real pain. Getting to a forum from an email is equally a pain because the email does not bring you to the post it is in referrence to so you have to go to the last page of the forum and work backwards! Coming here usually leaves me on page one of your forum so I just go to the last page and scroll up to where I last remember seeing/reading your posts. A real PIA!

Using my artistic license I painted the cabin top a light blue.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1916734http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1916735

I made up the steps and glued on the silver part. Which is put out by "Bondo" Its a self adhesive body patch. I believe they are supposed to be sunk into the cabin a little but didn't see it in time.

I just received a tracking number from Harbor Models and I requested 1 to 3 day shipping so sea trials will begin soon.

Also Wayne a great source I've found for scale tires is thrift stores. They usually have beat-up die cast cars and trucks for a buck or less each. Just pull off the tires and discard the toy. I have a whole shoe box full of rubber scale tires in assorted treads and sizes.

Laid the keel on August 1 and model almost complete five weeks later. Amazing!

Tidnab 09-05-2013 08:00 AM

Would a fire extinguisher look out of place on your tug ? It's metal and 1 3/4 " from the bottom to the handle and a total height of 2. " Needs repainted red.I looked online for one like it and it is 1:12 scale.

Just received my package from Harbor Models with 2 in the box.

Also received all the electronics along with doors, hatches, portholes, helm and a few more goodies. Most of the electronics are already installed. Figuring out where I want the on/off switch is pending.

Wayne,

Put some shrink tubing on one of the fuse leads to prevent accidental shorting, defeating the purpose of the fuse. What voltage battery are you using? RCU surprised me this time and brought me right to the thread rather than dumping me off at the beginning of the forum. Yeah, maybe they have that little thorn in the side fixed!
