Graupner coupling

1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone have information as to the assembly process for the Graupner shaft coupling #346? There are five parts to be joined but it seems that the plastic ends are too stiff to insert the metal pin blocks. It is being used with a Graupner Speed 900 motor and the Graupner Schottel drive unit, part number 2335. Any help will be greatly appreciared.

I hate to say it but if it doesn't fit -- force it. They are a tight fit but they will go together.

marjin: it's very easy once you know how. What do you need to know? Heat.........

Run the uni-joint under HOT tap water. About a minute should do. Then use a screwdriver, butter knife, etc to spread the jaws apart while inserting the knuckle. After you get it inserted, squeeze the jaws together again so they fit tight and run it under cold water.

I just built this one yesterday. The hot water trick I learned on my Traxxas r/c trucks which require frequent u-joint replacement!

How good/well made are those U-joint couplers? Are they centered or most are off center?
Looking for U-joint connector with 5mm at one end and 4mm at the other end. Do they make those type?

After the input from Kmot, i was able to assemble the couplers and install them The motors are at an angle and offset from the drive unit. The coupler adjusts for this fact and seems to be rather strong and capable of handling the task. Mine are 5mm to 6mm, try Graupner for the 5mm to 4mm size.

DID YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS? INSERT A DRILL BIT INTO THE SILVER UJOINT AND THEN INSERT ONE OF THE PINS INTO THE HOLE IN THE COUPLER, WITH THE DRILL BIT USE IT AS A LEVER TO FORCE THE OTHER PIN INTO THE HOLE

I BROKE ONE LAST NIGHT TILL I READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.

Hi ScottOram;
What kind of water pump are you using and where did you find it. I am building a "Dauntless"and I hope I can do as neat a job of it as you have. Your boat drive system really looks great. What type of model is it.
Thank you. Chuck

A word of warning to anyone looking at ScottOram's installation.

ALL driveshafts even rigid ones well lined up will whip out of line at a certain torque and rpm. It is not a good idea to have a long unsupported length or the sort of bend shown.

I guess in this case it would be OK with the gearing and judging from the size of wiring it does not have huge power or revs.

Spacious hull and neatly tied down wires! Well done. What does the rest of the boat look like?

Jerry
