Revell/Monogram USS Lionfish 1/220 scale
Hi all!
In my search for a plastic model to convert into R/C I keep running into this:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEL91&P=7
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this model or if anyone could foresee a problem making it a dynamic diver.
Do not know about how much room there is inside, but it is apparently 21" in length. That is about all I know about it.
thanks in advance!
Shane

My friend had bought one of these subs sometime ago and used it as a static display model, I remember that he said to me that the sub is split along the vertical middlepoint, and also it is about 60 cm long and 4-5 cm wide.

Maybe, but just maybe, because since the hull is so thin, I don't think micro servos would fit very well, especially since you have to make two prop shafts and accomodate motors or something like that, it might be possible to make it dynamic diving only, but if you can investigate in micro ballast tanks, there might be a solution too.

actually I wanted it to be a dynamic diver anyway. Do you think the split hull would be a problem?

It could make installing the wtc and the electronics abit tricky but I think it will provide a really good tight seal if you can adapt a screw-in method with O-rings, sort of like a bottle cap. That is one good looking sub, if you can make it into something RC, that would be a great achievement!

I am thinking if I adopt to a "wet" motor rig, perhaps even wet batteries as I started reading about over at subcommitte site the wtc will only have to house the servos, although I can't remember where but I read someone was able to make those wet too, and radio gear and the speed control. In some ways, i wonder if the split hull would actually make it easier to mount in the beginning. I have to find the posts about wet motors and batteries. I think I could do this otherwise. I am also trying to do this on a relatively light budget. That should get the creative juices motivated.
Thanks for the response!
Any other info anyone can provide is much appreciated!!

Sure!, just think of the sub as a whole "WTC", the split is the joint and and also the watertight seal, just make a component ray out of plastic, install the servos onto them, drop it into the hull (after you've found a way to install the linkages) and seal it off somehow from the motor and batteries that are in the wet. About the wet batteries, I've heard that you can poke holes out of a ballon, thread the wires through them, wrap the balloon around the battery pack and tie a knot at the end, this should provide a good seal, you can also seal the wires off with some epoxy too.
