Default Looking for sub...

A while ago, I bought a mini sub. It was fun, but I would like something bigger and better. I have been thinking about some of the subs on [link=http://www.dumasproducts.com]DumasProducts.com[/link]. The USS Bluefish and the Akula Kit. Are these any good? If they are, I would also like to know if they are RTR.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

The Dumas subs are not RTR, they are both dynamic diving subs (diving with No ballast tank) and require a 3 channel radio to run, I believe that the Bluefish comes with all running hardware (motors, etc) and for the Akula, I'm not really sure, check out the Subcommittee forum, click on "General" and look for a topic named " RC-subs".

Go to the Tower Hobbies website, look for the radios section on the left side, scroll down and click on "3 channel radios" You should be able to find some good example there.

Thanks for the site!

I'm having a hard decision between the Akula sub and the Bluefish. Do you know which is better?
Also, I was wondering if it is possible to put a ballast system in either one of the subs.

I built the Dumas Bluefish a while back. I like the option of all the different conning towers you could use to build it. I had one heck of a time getting the WTC to not leak. After talking to a few people I found out that I was not the only one. Seems to be some sort of design flaw. Anyway, I heard the Akula is supposed to be better. I don't know. I do know that the WW2 sub looks pretty cool (especially if you add all the little H&R details for it)

Hope this helps,
Pete

It's possible to put a ballast tank in the Akula, I've heard of it. I suggest you buying the Akula (I agree with subsinker's opinion about WWII subs being cool too!) there seemed to be some dicussions about the Dumas Bluefish not being completely accurate. Check with Mr. Dave Welch, he has done some really good work on the kit.

Thanks again.

I think that I've decided on the akula now. I am planning on buying a 4-channel radio with it. However, there is one more question that I want to ask []... Will the akula be ready to run after I purchase (and install) the ESC, the motor, the battery/ battery charger, and the tx?

[link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBCP2**]Here is the tx that I'm thinking of getting[/link]

I believe it will, If you want to add a ballast tank to make it a static diver, rearrange the WTC (water tight cylinder) make sure that the tank is roughly in the center of the weight (center of flotation). The instructions say that the sub is designed for pool use only, some of us don't really know what that means but I think you can still use it in a lake or pond without any concerns it's supposed to go in water anyways..

I think when the manufacturers say 'for pool use' they mean any fresh water as opposed to salt water which can have an adverse effect on the radio signal.

the robbe seawolf is a much better buy, the akula is very small, and space is quite limited.
lots of room in the seawolf.
