Hi my name is john harkness
My interest is in gas boats but my father has always loved subs. My grandfather was a submariner sadly i never met him as he went down on the Affray. anyway to the the point i want to buy my dad a kit for christmas he is a shipwright by trade and has made me many models over the yaers so the skills needed are in abundance. He was talking about scratch buiding one but i wanted to buy him a kit because he will never get round to it! What are the best options on the market is there an affray kit? i didnt want to start spending loads of money maybe £200-£300 any advise will be much apprciated

Hello John, my main hobby now is Gas power but I also build subs. My advise to you from experience is to go for something like a Robbe U47 or Type XXI for a first sub.
They are only dynamic divers but are simple and work well and not badly priced. I've had a lot of fun with mine. Keep it simple!.
I also have an Engel Typhoon which is a static diver but much more expensive and complicated.
Hope this helps, Gary.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but Gary could you please post some picture in and out of your Typhoon if you get a moment? I am considering this as my next build. Cheers.
