DUMAS Akula
Just wondering what the reaction to the DUMAS Akula Sub is, I have read posts featuring the Typhoon Which looks impressive. Sadly due to the recent wedding.. my submarine wish list has to be budgeted [&o] Anyone who has constructed or know people who have contructed this model please could you reply with information like the handling, finishing *before painting* and any issues about the model its self.
I am new to Kit Building and Submarines as i have always been scratch building model ships.
Any help before i order this model would be greatly apreciated

[sm=biggrin.gif] Awsome mate, this thread really helped me out i apreciate your help and forwarding this link to me, just got 1 question to the submarining world out there.
If you had the chance to build a modern Akula sub or U-47 which would you choose im torn between the 2 since a friend showed me his U-47.

RE: DUMAS Akula
lol i am starting to agree nuke subs may look good under the water.. but on the surface picking out your targets not as impressive. During shows, unless traveling fast, nuke subs would look like coke cans, as its my first sub, i want to use the dynamic system and also the fact its cheaper.
but has anyone managed to upgrade or add features to the U-47? if can anyone help [8D]

hey manx2007,
You might try the following,
1.getting more powerful motors.
2.putting a micro wireless cam in tower or on deck.
3.getting bigger and better props on the drive shafts.
Although I've never built one myself, these might
work.

Subcaptain,

While I'm quite a U-boat fanatic, I do have a special place in my heart for Russian submarines. I just love the distinctive, streamlined shape that some of them have. My favourite nuke is probably the Russian Alfa class SSN (fastest and deepest-diving submarine in the world!)

RE: DUMAS Akula
I agree with peoples suggestions with the nuke boats.. but a few faults for choosing the Akula
A: I wouldnt even consider looking into a project like the tyhoon sub, as much as i love this vessel since watching Hunt for Red October as a child i cant afford one with recently getting married, for its cost and size.. i would rather wait for a high wage increase *aka pay rise*..
B: My wife is lithuanian.. and my sub will be patroling around the lake just behind our back garden *summer only as in winter the lakes just ice* As older members might know... Lithuania still has mixed cultures with a few bad and a few good times / stories regarding there Soviet occupiers *AKA Russia* and as there my new nieghbours i dont fancy stepping on there shoes as to say
so i feel it will be a German U boat [8D]... thanks for your advice subhunter, i will look into the cam and extra size props
