Hey All,
Hobby Town USA will have a nation wide contest on 17 Oct. Each store will hold it's own event and offer cash prizes. (From what I was told)
Entry Fee is $3 for the first model and $1 for each additional model.
So I know I will have the KT, 5 Tigers, 2 Pershings, 1 T-72. I figure if David enters he will have the Bulldog, KV-1, and PZ-III, then if Bill can make it down, well they might have to move the event outside.
That is a lot of armored might to be displayed. So check with your local Hobby Town. If as many of us enter as possible I have a feeling phones will start ringing, Emails will fly. Next thing you know it our local stores are able to supply the tanks and goodies we all need.
Have fun!!

Looks interesting Don, Hobby Town here really looks down on 1;16 armor. Keith Frape works there and had two very unsucessful attempts are running his own shop, but both folded. He is an absolute superb modeller and taught me a lot, but he doesn't like RC tanks at all. In one way he is correct, as RC'ing does eliminate the minute details one would put on making the tank look correct and banging around on the battlefield will disturb a lot. I'll put it on my "place to be" list. Send out some info..

I was planning to go to Charleston one of the coming weekends while the weather is still nice. It would be great for a newbie like me to take a look at your "toys" and get tips and advice from the experts.

We nolonger even have any hobby shops in my area so a hobby Town is un heard of around here. The one or two small shops that do still exist are so expensive you can't afford to walk in the door. Even considering they have online shops. The store merchandise is just to expensive.

We still do and I went to one of them but they didn't have any RC tanks. They said the Tamiyas were too expensive and they stopped carrying them. What about the HL though, at 70-80 for the cheap plastic version you'd think they would sell well? I didn't realize the RC tank hobby is such a small market.

Hey HAL,
There are a chain of stores across the US. Each of these stores will have a model contest divided into categories. Cars, Trucks, Armor, Aircraft, Diorama etc. Then they divide it into scales.
Usually the store manager is the judge but they be different this year.
Prize money is awarded along with a plaque and trophy.
Now this year I have a feeling that when about 15 1/16 scale tanks roll in, heads are gonna spin, and eyes will bulge. Then I have feeling that HOBBY TOWN might just get the hint that the RC armor world is a force to be reckoned with.
HAL I also need your help. I need "T-72M1(Ural) Soviet Main Battle Tank" in Russian.
Thanks
Don

Don, methinks these people are geared up to handle 1;72 and 1;35 static models. They will flip when we roll in with the big stuff. [X(]
I'm bringing 12..my IDF tanks and Syrian/Egyptian targets, Pershing, M-45, 46 and M-41B, Korean T-34 and killed one. If we make a good presentation and demo how these work with DBUs etc, it just may get them to handle RC tanks. Could very well bring in some interested new tank enthusiasts. I am also bringing in 2 or 3 1;35 dioramas.

I thini this has been covered before but HL wants you to buy 100 's of units at a time not a dozen or so. That is the biggest reason most hooby stores wont and don't carry them. They sell buy the Sea container load. Or in multiple unit orders. bottom line is small retail hobby stores cannot afford to buy the minimum requirements need from HL. they just cost too much money for most too buy in those quantities.
