You need both the MF unit and the DMD unit to use the Tamiya battle system. It is not a stand alone unit. You can get them from Karen at the AFF or Jason's on E-bay. Dave4what my also carry the electronics alone also but i'm not sure.

$21 for the apple is a good price and fair. I never could figure out why they were asking $75 for these things.!!!! Competition has its rewards.

Did you say the apple was 75 bucks alone? I thought that was the entire system...

With Tamiya the battle system is part of the electronics. They all have it, so all you have to do is add the apple and you are in business. And yes the Tamiya apple MSRP is around $75.00. You can buy a DBU from Darkith for $15.00 and they work fine with the Tamiya system. However you then end up with a bunch of issues at a club meet. The Darkith unit with its four sensors is more sensitive and puts you at a slight disadvantage. I use a TBU(Tamiya Battle Unit) with my Darkith systems to reduce the differences to a minimum.

i assume you have the dmd & mfu. if you just need the battle unit (apple) mount with wiring harness, so you can switch your battle unit from one tank to another, Tamiya has them for about $37 as noted by others the whole battle unit (apple, mount, firing led and attached wiring cost $75 & up. Imapct also sells a compatible battle unit system and also sells the mount as a separate item. The impact and Tamiya systems are fully battle compatible but they use a different plug from the apple to the mount.

Hi Darryl,

Call Karen and Tasha at the AAF Tank Mus. for they have everything you could possibly need. There are four parts to the TBS: Receiver head (AKA Apple), receiver base, IR Emitter (red & white wires) and the emitter holder (permanant mount is included in the TBS kit for mounting in the mantlet and the "Clip on holder" for the barrel comes with each tank kit.) You can get it piece meal at aaftankmuseum.com Tell them Bob from NJ sent you.

Guys:

MSRP is $157, but we all know it never sells for that, right? But look at the prices of the components:

0115300 : S Parts: 53447 - Price: $12.00
1050018 : Instructions: 53447 - MSRP: $5.75; Discount Price: $1.26
7255028 : GFS Receiver Unit: 53447 - MSRP: $89.00 ; Discount Price: $21.50
7255029 : GFS Base: 53447 - Price: $37.00
7255030 : Infrared LED: 53447 - Price: $11.00
9415754 : Infrared LED Bag: 53447 - Price: $20.50

Just the components come doen to $103.25... and even those never sell at the set price.

And mebbe a thought, if you need all but the casing, mebbe Karen would remove it from one and sell ya the rest, keeping the case as a spare.

I think AFF gets about $25 or so for the base and the IR emitter is $6. I think the whole TBU "Hop-up" option package is about $90. Call them or email them to comfirm. They are the cheapest 95% of the time. The other 5% is when yo can get a good deal from Tamiyatown or another e-tailer.

I just checked Tamiya's website, and it lists their GFS "Apple" aka, part number 7255028 : (GFS Receiver Unit: 53447 - MSRP: $89.00 ; Discount Price: $21.50) as 'discontinued' and no longer available.

Does anyone know where I can get some?  I need 3 apples (I already have the Tamiya base units and LEDs.

Thanks.

Mitosal http://mitosal.com/(a.k.a. Impact) sells a battle unit which is plug-and-play with the Tamiya electronics. It also costs a little less. I'm using one in a Tamiya/Asiatam/Impact/Heng Long/Profiline project.

Thanks HondoBob for the tip.  I'm trying to fill in some extra Tamiya GFS base units I have.  They just lack the apple.  I'm trying to make them a full set.

Just spoke with my Tamiya Rep concerning the Battle units or TBU's - presently the GFS receiver or Apple as it is affectationally called (actually I prefer mushroom as it looks more like a mushroom then an apple) is presently discontinued, but will be available sometime in the future. Also the TBU units are presentlyout of stock at tamiya( we have about 5 here in the museum to sell). The unit itself is not being discontinued, there just seems to be a short term production problem.

Thanks for the info Karen.  I remember the supply on Tamiya Battle Units dried up about 2 years ago.  For 3-4 months, there were none to be had.  I sure hope this isn't an encore performance.

Just remember guys. THe Impact apple and base are different from the Tamiya apple and base. The are NOT interchangable. Whereas they look identical, they are not. The wires to the MF unit are fully compatable and the same. The IR emitters are also interchangable. Aside from LED colors the two battle units appear to both fuction very well and exactly the same in battle. I have used both and they work well. Remember you cannot use a Impact apple on a Tamiya base.
