King Tiger question

I'm doing a battle weary King Tiger, so it has some side skirts missing. My question is- did the camo splotches continue down the hull under the skirts or were they painted on after teh skirts were installed? I'm doing dark yellow base with brown and green camo splotches, sort of like this pic (below). Every KT pic I have found with missing skirts have the camo continuing under where the skirt would be, but I figure they might just be restored incorrectly.
Anyone know for sure?

Depended on the individual crew. Some were painted cammo with the skirts on and depending on when the tank was build either the base colour or primer behind the fenders. A crew with a good Sergeant would pull the fenders, do the cammo, install the fenders, and camo the fenders to match. If you rummage around on the 'net you will find photos of both.

Dmon,
As far as I have been able to discerner. The tanks came from the factory in " dunkle yellow II " but as the war went on, they left the factory with whatever paint they had on hand. The camo was applied in the field. The fenders would most likely have been applied ( they were removed for rail movement ) and the camo done over them. Thus, with fenders pulled off due to action, it would reveal the factory paint ( either dunkle yellow or the red primer )
Hope this helps.
