Default CAN-AM RC Tank Club Updated DEC 12th

Just an update for CAN-AM members.

1) We are still trying to secure a location for a permanent battlefield at the Fort Erie Sportsman's Club. Getting reasonable insurance is the stickler, and Glen has been feverishly getting quotes. But liabilities around using Airsoft guns is whats making it difficult.

2) The date of Next Battleday is still in the works (mid Jan or Feb). We are most likely going to use an indoor battlefield.

3) We need buildings and trees! If you have some carpentry skills, we could use more buildings, ruins and bridges. Look for discarded artificial Christmas trees. Make your buildings collapsible for easy transport.

4) Our club members now have 9 tanks that are Tamiya IR compatible, so if you have gotten yourself a DBU for your HL now is the time.

More info to come.

Tim, Is the paper building OK?
I don't have tools to create building like Dennis's and yours.[]

Any building you can make is fine with me. Paper mounted on Foam board works well (as long as it does not rain LOL).

Foam board can be found at Wallymart or Staples.

You may want to add some weight to it to prevent it being pushed all over the battlefield.

I just ordered 20 17" trees from Sunshine Crafts for $1.79 each to use at our battledays.

A great deal if you ask me.

If you have Dollar Tree stores way up there in Canada, foamboard is $1 for a 30x20 sheet.

We may be scrapping our 25 year old artificial Christmas tree this year.

If so, parts of it could become partt of the scenery

Come on you guys! If you were serious you'd use Bonsai trees! They're perfectly to scale!

maybe if there is snow on the ground when we meet next we can have an reenactment of the Ardennes Offensive Better make up a "Bastone" sing and get some 101st Airborne figures first (lol)

Bastone eh? Free "Nuts" for everyone who attends.

Great idea. We should have tons of trees by then.

I've been to Belgium but unfortunately didn't make it to Bastogne. []

Have any of you been?

Hahaha... I just purchased 3 1/18 101st Airborne figures recently. Maybe it can be used this time.

We could set up an indoor IR Shoot-out. I do have 2 Infrared Targets with sound cards that I am going to place inside some objectives to destroy and we could use some tanks with TBU/DBUs as additional targets. Not as exciting as shooting airsoft at targets, but its the best we can do considering the circumstances.

Some futher developements:

1) Use of the Fort Erie Sportsman's club is on hold as insurance costs are too high. Glen is still actively seeking another solution. We may have to go back to using public parks with washroom facilites (IR only) or have members host the events at thier homes. Some of us currently have space to run tanks, so give it a thought.

2) I have selected the following dates for official CAN-AM events. More can and probably will be added, as these dates are during the warmer months. Meets are about ever 2 months.

April 9th, 2011
June 11th, 2011
August 13th, 2001
October 8th, 2001

3) I am still trying to find somewhere to have a winter meet in February.

4) The Airsoft cannons has become a bit of a liability, and so there will be no offical airsoft events during a CAN-AM Battleday at a public location. Private locations are another matter. So please investigate getting a Tamiya compatible IR system.

5) Last, we are still in need of battelfield buildings, ruins and wrecks. Thanks to those who have offered to give building construction a try.

Good call on the tree's! (ordered 20, soon I will be able to assemble a scale model of the Bois Jacques...!)

Here's a building plan for you guys in return [8D]

I found the building in Google Earth using info and pictures from this thread:
http://warrelics.eu/forum/after-batt...journey-10894/ (you will have to register to see the pictures)

I realised afterwards that its maybe a little too small around the door and stairs (still working on that last detail), but close enough to pass as scenery... Hope its useful to you guys

I'll see if I can convince my wife to let me use the house for the winter meeting. Tim& Glen you've seen my back yard. So long as its not a west wind blizzard then it will be perfect for a winter battle field

Thats great.

Mine might work for summer use, the yard is too wet from Oct. to May, here in the "swamps".

The clay sets like concrete in the summer, though.
