TEXAS ARMOR YEAR-END TANKOLYMPICS
Just to end the year, we down here in Texas decided to have a fun day along with our regular battle day where we held the first annual TAA TankOlympics to show case the tankers skill at driving and gunnery. There were 2 classes, heavy and medium. Turn out was a bit light with 7 members in attendance due to the holidays, family, work scheduals and the weather, (boy was it cold and windy!), but we still had fun! The field was laid out with a course marked by flags, where the tankers had to navigate thru, over and around the 7,200 sq.ft battle field, and had 3 targets to hit, one they had to come to a complete stop and the other 2 was firing on the move. All of this was a timed event.
In the heavy class, Al running his HL KV-1 came in 3rd with a time of 5min,49:15sec.(he would have done a bit better, but found out gravity works when you get too close to the edge of a bridge!) William came in 2nd with his HL Pershing at 4min,13:44sec and his dad Hans took 1st with his HL Peshing at 3min, 53;18sec.
In the medium class, Ted with his HL Stug IIIg came in 3rd with a time of 6min, 07;97sec, John in 2nd with his Tamiya Sherman at 6min, 06;28sec, and I am REALLY proud to say, that this being his 2nd outing, my 11 year old son, Zack with his HL Mk IVg came in 1st with a time of 5min, 21:38sec!!! He drove that thing like a pro! (sorry, I just have to boast about him, proud daddy and all of that!)
For those of you who have visited us in the past you know that the feild is a challange, all of the tankers did a great job! Afterwards, after lunch, we went back to doing what we love to do best, complete with a 30 minute battle that saw some feirce combat on both sides. A great way to end the year!
