Default Dick Winters (Band Of Brothers) Has Died

I just saw that Dick Winters, one of the 'Band of Brothers', has passed away.

Oh, that is sad.
But it is so fortunate for us that he had so many opportunities to share his stories with us through Tom Hanks & company...

His leadership attitude was so steady and matter-of-fact...sort of a "Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys" type of quiet and intelligent leadership figure.

Here is a quick link to the story: www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/01/dick_winters_of_band_of_brothe.html

This is sad. So many of our vets are leaving us, and with most of them goes the priceless memories of a different time and life. God speed.

The definition of a hero. All of that generation who served in something much bigger than themselves. Major Winters seems to have lived a great life and lived as a role model for all of us. He is widely respected and loved by those who had any contact with him. We should celebrate his life, and be thankful that his story was able to be distributed so widely. I can only hope that he died peacefully. God Bless you, sir! And thank you!

I wish I had the chance to shake his hand one day, maybe during some D-day anniversary in Normandy

I had the fortune of meeting a few of the band of brothers, Guarnere, Malarky, Compton to name a few. Sadly I did not have the privilege of meeting Winters. And I just said to my wife the other day that was the one man whose autograph I did not have and would love to meet him. I wish we could turn back time and have them all healthy and young again. He will surely be missed. May our prayers go out to his family and friends. We love you.

Well, what were you waiting for? You lived closer than many. His hometown is Hershey.

Well its not like I was going to go knocking on his door I would go to the WWII weekend every year, but he wasn't there the last few years, so that is why I never did get to meet him.

Because of the TV mini series, we all feel like we kind of knew him. This announcement therefore hits me a little in the gut. Like so many of that era, time is running out. The old soldiers will soon be all gone. Rest in peace Dick Winters. You were respected, and you were loved. Your story, and those of your men, touched us all.
