Default Sherman Direct Vision

Hi all,

Has anyone built or seen a set of hoods (thanks for the term Swathdriver) for a Sherman and just so we are on the same page because I never get the right term.

These :

The bumps in front of the the driver and co driver hatches, on directly above the hull MG.

Nice Sherman,,,it was originally a DD. You can easily make perisopes using plastic or better plexiglass mirror scraps. I had a post in War Room on making them. Markings are already on the tanks...simply file them off and install the persicope heads....place a very thin plate over each to represent the spring loaded cover.

Those aren't direct vision blocks. They are called "hoods" and and were introduced after the direct vision tanks. There are many different styles of hoods depending on the factory and sherman variant.

Thanks Swathdriver, that's why the picture I never get the name right. The old 21st century Sherman had the right kind, but it looks like a scratch build thing, along with the transmission housing.

Yes, for now you have to make your own. If the economy would pick up then the other tanks would get made but no word yet so far.

All Baldwin built M4 Shermans had the 3 piece differential housing and direct vision slots with a rolled lower plate under the engine doors. These tanks served in every major theater from '43 on.

Pick up a Dragon 1/35 sherman of the variant you want and scale up the parts you want to replicate with sheet styrene.
