CAN-AM Battlefield Planning
What I can contribute:
-50 pine trees
-Church
-Barn
-Two story manor house
-2 one story cottages
-2 Pillbox/Bunkers
-M16 Halftrack and Sdkfz251 with 76mm Pak Halftrack
-A Dozen soldiers
What would you like to see on it?
What can you add to it?
What else do you think we need?
What would I like to see on it?:
-I'd like to see a dried river bed cutting across the field, with two bridges and maybe a third crossing point.
-Whatever earth we dig out, we can use to build hills with.
-I'd also like to see some anti-tank trenches to block approaches
-An airfield as there are some nice 1:18 Stukas and Me109s and 262s out there.
What else do I think we need?:
-More trees. I have 50, but I think we need another 50. I found a cheap source for them, but shipping to Canada is insane. If Eggman will agree for us to use his NY post office box, we could get more for a good price.
-I also have a source for free rail road ties, but we will need a truck to get them.
Although I don't have tools and skill to create a beautiful one. I have some wood panel can be set as temporary bridge..
Maybe I still can create some little small farm houses.
I may have two Foam bunkers too.
I am also going to make Dragons teeth for my back yard so I will make extra in spring....How big should I make the dragons teeth, I was thinking big, so I can also use them with my 1/6 stuff..
Ho and big rocks , I like big rocks....Honken AC/ DC rocks....
Whatever rocks we bring have to be removed after play. The center is afraid of kids using them to break windows.
Hi Tim, Long time no hear. Grad to read your club has finally found a battlefield you can call home. Starting a battlefield from the ground up will take some time and hard work but once finished, you guys will have a blast. Between you and Dennis you guys should have a lot of buildings and accessories already made you can add to your new battlefield.
Does your club have any up-coming battle days coming up? If so, I can add the dates to our Facebook page under “Events”. Just don’t see anything on your clubs website at this time. Just let me know!
Please post some pictures of your new battlefield once you get started.
Gene
My Battlefield building work continues (its nice being off work, but my fun is about to end).
The Normandy cottage is pretty much done. It needs a clear coat. The thatch roof is made from a blanket I got at Wally Mart.
Sorry Tim, have not heard anything from Dennis in a few months or longer but if i hear something i will let you know. Hope Dennis is doing well? Your Normandy cottage looks really good and should look great on your new battlefield. Gene
-Tree and Buildings can be placed anywhere. The roads, airfield, river bed, trench and hills are all permanent... well for now anyway.
With our April 9th Battleday only 10 weeks away (seems like a life time) I thought we should plan when to 'Break ground' at the field and have a planning day to do some initial digging and plotting out of the field. Since we are planning to have bridges and hills, I figure a river bed and a few hills are an achievable goal during a 1-3 hour afternoon on Saturday March 26th or April 2nd.
I'd also like to run past you the idea of expanding our calander to include Saturday May 14th, July 16th, Sept 17th and November 5th. These dates would serve as rain dates for the Battledays or as work/play days to work on the field and just have fun with your tanks. Work/Play days would only last about 3 hours and give us more use of the field. Digging is not for everyone. Some of you may have injuries or afflictions that prevent you from such work, so don't feel pressured to work hard, just come out, shout out some directions and have fun.
Expanded 2011 Calander:
March 26: Field planning day
April 9th: Battleday
May 14th: Work/Play day
June 11: Battleday
July 16: Work/Play day
Aug 13th: Battleday
Sept 17th: Work/Play day
Oct 8th: Battleday
Nov 5th: Battleday
TJM has also offered to host an Airsoft shoot-out at his home in St. Catharines this spring. We may add this or just substitute it for the May 14th work/play day.
Any objections?
Edit it is an Air soft, if you allow them...
Our club is in Southern Ontario and our new field is 15 minutes south of Niagara Falls (great vacation spot). Visitors are always welcome.
You can bring whatever tanks you have, modern or WW2.
We have had to resort to only IR at our field (due to insurance reasons), but we are planning to run airsoft events at private residents.
We have another 50 17" pine trees on the way thanks to Hulu (Ke) and also to Mike for letting us use his Lewiston NY postal box.
I know the club vision was to take everything we bring to the field home with us, but I am going to push for some on site storage (every other organization there has access to storage). I have 7 buildings that I don't want to cart back and forth and with a 2400 sq ft field, that makes for a lot of battlefield props.
And more good news, Wiarton Willy predicted an early Spring! Grease your gears and charge your batteries!
