Hey viper, Ive just finshed building my elephant, lovely kit! But did you find there is alot of slop in the suspension and wheels. Also the suspension springing is abit weak? Btw If anyone knows how to connect the recoil upto a tamiya mf unit please let me know!

All Elefant had Zimmerit the Ferdinand did not so you would have to back date, or you could build one of the 2-3 that fought in Berlin with a lot of damaged Zimmerit.

I was wondering if any of the Elefant builders is evaluating the use of other electronics than the Tamiya ones..

Do the gearboxes have standoffs/spacers to rest on the bottom of the hull? Just looking ahead for different possibilities to use instead of the stock equipment.

Any mechanical failures or breakdowns to note so far? I should be getting mine in a few weeks ... hopefully.

Ive replaced the stock tus with tamiya KT tus , you have to file down the end of the tus for them to fit and re bore the holes but aside from that and easy very effective conversion. Weak points of the kit it would say is the suspension, without reworking very sloppy and really needs stronger springs IMO. Also due to this when running on grass so will throw tracks a fair bit (even with my modded suspension which has nearly zero play in it). Ive gone so far now as to have bough the asia tam metal tracks , which means the asia tam sprokets and suspension too!I shall let you know how it works out! Everything else is fine! elevation and traverse is good and the recoil works fine!

I need your help to verify the scale of the hooben model, to compare it with the IMAI one, since there is someone saying that the IMAI elefant was in 1/15 scale, not 1/16.

Can you measure and post the following dimensions of the hooben model:

- lenght withouut barrel
- lenght with barrel
- width

Thank you!

I often wondered about that too and I think the whole mentioning of scale is a misnomer anymore. I saw a line up of the Elefant with the TI and KT and it wasn't much larger than the KT.

Wish I remember where I saw that at.

A side-by-side comparison with the mythical Imai elefant, comparing sizes and details, would be a great comparative review

Last summer Rex Ross and I brought our 1:16th scale scratch (not Hooben) built elefants to a Kelly's Heroes meeting. Jerry Carducci (Tanque) was there with one of his IMAI elefants. An eyeball comparison did not indicate any size differences, We did not measure them but side by side they all looked to be the same size.
A review of available tanks (at the time) by the Bay Area Tankers (BAT) web site lists the IMAI as a 1:16 tank. If anyone has a photo of the box art they can confirm.

That's what I knew, therefore it is not a 1/15 scale model as someone said (not here)
