All,At the battleday Sundaymy Panther`s gun barrelelevation servo started acting up.Don`t you know that while battling Brett and Tony I could not
depress my barrel dpwn to the horizontal so that I could return effective fire against them.Like a sittig duck it didn`t take them long to finish my Panther
off.Today I investigated why I have a problem with the barrel elevation, and it turns out that the elevation servo has a sort of slip clutch (ostensibly put there
so that little hands don`t hang onto the barrel during elevation).I therefore dismantled the servo (Took two photos during the process, camera has better
memory than most of us).Smallest part of servo is a little E-clip for retaining the crank (don`t drop this part on a dirty garage floor !).
After removing the gears (shafts stay in housing, gears slide off) Next move was to clean any grease off the clutch/clutch gear with alcohol, I then CA`d
the clutch to the gear.Reassembled the servo with the three screws, tested it using two flashlight batteries in series.Installed into tank, works fine !
I know this part is available for $10-$15 dollars US,but I`m inquisitive (and cheap). In case anyone has elevation problems check out the photos.

If that Panther's elevation unit is like the Tamiya ones (you dinna say if it was Tamiya or HL) you can scavenge the solid gears out of one of the Tamiya toy motor sets.
This was discovered by a member (now banned from this forum) who tried to capitalize on it at $10 a gear. Then I recognised the gears as the same ones from the 'toy' gearboxes they pack in the new static kits like the King Tiger and T1. Now they just pack 'em with unpopulated DMD-gearbox frames.
The Tamiya look-up number is: 72005, the 6-speed gearbox [link=http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=72005](here)[/link]
Hope that helps ya out.

Thanks Whitewolf, for the tip on using Tamaiya toy box gears.Although now that the problem has been corrected I probably won`t pursue it. However there
may be some other folks on this site who can use this tip you have offered.

Well...
I'm sure I have some left over from the first toy-box... and two or three clutches that could be epoxied/JB-Welded/CA'd, or whatever. The only question is... where were the bloody things ~put~ for the move back in July '08.
I'll see if I can dig 'em up, and it'll help me begin my 'sorting' of various components.
And no sweat... always glad to save someone a chunka change, if I can!
