1/16 Scale Panzergrenadier Zeltbahns
I made these yesterday out of some scraps of suplex ( like gore-tex but cheaper ) that were sitting around. They are sized correctly to 1/16 scale with the "splinter" camo patern hand painted as best as I can do. They should be camo on both sides but I have only painted one side so far. The real ones have a slit in the middle to use as a poncho and gromits for connecting others to make a bigger shelter. Mine are more simple, they are for a diorama I'm putting together for the tanks for shooting movies and pix.

OK karel, I got a little farther on the Zeltbahn shelter idea today.
This one is set up as a 3 man, as per army instructions.

I switched the setup to a 4 man shelter, and I added holes along the bottom for tent stakes. I like this setup much better.
With the stakes I can now deploy this shelter anywhere, the stakes work in dirt so going outside for pictures is no problem. It just sets up like a regular tent! It will look cool next to parked tanks.
For storage the whole thing lays flat.

Pah,
I've got a pic of a shelter set up on a railroad flatcar transporting the tank. I'll scan it if I can find it. Good work.

Thanks.
Tonight I stiched in the " ropes" holding the Zeltbahns together.
After researching these to make them I am left with the belief that they were drafty and leaked alot, and they must have been uncomfortable to sleep in.
I can't imagine surviving the night with nothing but a zeltbahn between me and a Russian winter.

I got a chance to deploy the shelter outside. It worked great.
We picked up this guy on a routine patrol, he claimes to be 1/18 scale and modern but we don't buy his story. We think it's a trick.

Well, I have made two of these things so far, I should stop now. It's getting out of hand.
I also put them on cement board bases so they would be faster to set up in the field.
Here is some pix from a fast set up in a field. Picture a wheat field on the eastern front...
