Default My first attemp

Been a fanatic for the 1/35 tanks from Tamiya and Dragon for the past many years. Also have a Tamiya 1/16 wired Sherman which at time of purchased, this is the cheap alternative to radio control.

Only a couple of months back (after my retirement), decided to relight my passion for this hobby again. Got myself a HL Tiger 1 and completed it in a couple of weeks time. Next decided to doll-up this tiger as I never really good at using a airbrush. Below are some photos of my not-so-good paint job. Need inputs from experts here.

paint job looks pretty good to me i like it
one thing is the sticker you put on i'm sure that the clear on top comes off and just the vinyl is left on if those are stock stickers from HL

Looks pretty good to me! You should have seen my first attempt some years ago. Only suggestion I would make is the unit numbers and markings. Get good decals for that, use decal setting solution, and then go over all when it's dry with a spray on dull coat. I have also been known to take an xacto knife and trim off all the excess sheet around the actual number and country insignia. All in all, though I would say it's quiet the acceptable effort.

ok i have been seeing this too many times now, there is a clear that you are suppose to take off of the HL stickers it is just used to keep the lettering or numbers intacked to make them easier to apply
here is a sample hope they are clear enough to show what i mean
1 cut out your sticker
2 take backing off
3 apply it to where you want it
4 rub it on make sure it sticks good
5 Take The Clear Off it is a silkscreened sticker and diecut so it don't have a gloss looking square around it

sorry for the ink on my fingernails i was silkscreening on thursday takes a few days to come off my hands

Looks great for a starting point, just too clean. Add some field dirt and maybe a couple dings and crimps on the track guards. Camo looks good..bear in mind that much of this was done in the field by the crew by hand and not so precise. The balkon kreuz goes on the front plate, so you could relocate it from the fender.

I like the paint job. One thing though, you may be thinning your paint to much, or have the airbrush to close. That's what may have caused some of the paint to run ( although, the same thing happens on the real tanks as well ). I know on some of the older HL tanks. The stckers were actually stickers and not dry transfers. If that is the case, then a good decal set will make your Tiger stand out. Good work and thanks for posting.

Hey guys ..

Thanks for all the useful tips on my first-time paintbrushing job. This is actually a sort of trial run on my paintbrush skill as I've a Tamiya King Tiger on its way. It would be a waste if I mess up this beast.

OMG! [X(]........I can't believe anyone would post photos without getting a manicure first! How could the moderator possibly let this slip through without censorship? Where are your priorities and social values? Tsk, Tsk..........

However, your paint job looks good to me ...........it's a heck of a lot better than my airbrushing paint jobs.

I wasn't aware that those HL decals could be salvaged. They are almost the same as linoleum floor tiles to me.

That's way better you just have to make them, look weathered to blend in and it will look even better... were you surprised at what they looked like after you peeled the clear off...lol
