Default CAN-AM Battleday Nov 5/11

This year's war season is coming to an end. Don't miss out on the last battle before the snow falls.

Setup: 9:30am

Start Time: 10:00am

Last Salvo: 4:00pm

I would also like to discuss some changes to the field like putting a German base in one corner and an Allied base in the other, moving the village to the middle, widening the field to 70'x60', the river and making more hills. Any thoughts?

Tim, I like all of the suggestions.

Like I said at the meet today, the only thing I can see to add is that we should make it a maintenance-friendly as possible for lawn cutting (since you mostly cut the lawn)

When we need to look at it on site, start any work, just give me a couple day's notice.

Other: if an indoo winter site or sites can be arranged, indoor at the Black Creek Centre, or other venu, I would love to see that happen and if it means a fee to attend for the day, I'm good w/that These events are so good, I don't want to quit entirely for the winter

Tim,

You read my mind. The village should be in the middle with the river running through it. This is much more realistic in my opinion. Having both German and allied bases is also a great touch of realism. With potential 5 on 5 (or more) tank battles we will definitely need the extra area let me know when I can come help with the grunt work.

Those 2000mah batteries are the pits. You will be happy with the 4500. We talked about doing a group buy of batteries over the winter.

The club has climbed over 12 regular members now, so we now have a nice pool of chargers and spare parts.

Oh, Tim, I thought I heard something of this, but does anyone bring 12V batteries to the battles? My charger will work from them, so I'm just wondering

Of course I suppose one could just use their car

Strato,

We have a wall plug and extention cord with a power bar for chargers to use.

We will take a 1/2 hour before the battles begin to do some digging, so bring your shovel.

Nice

Don't forget, though, since this our area of the Niagara Region is "the swamp" , I think we'd want to keep it above grade or the low spot would be under water for about half the meets.

BUT, since we'll likely be doing some more excavating, there will be soil fill available to build one above grade

I love rctanksrme videos. He has an amazing set up.

We did talk about digging the river a bit wider and deeper, so something like this may work as long as it does to impeed drainage.

I picked up a Bruder truck (cheep, Just the front rig) and i will paint it up for the battle feiled as a Army truck ,I guess it would make a good Ally Fuel truck with wood sides (I have some drums) , so all green ? or make it a baddies Truck ,gray ??
What do you guys think ??
Ho and Adolf Hamster got a new ride too, for parades and such. Can't let the troops see him in a P.O.S. DODGE...

I see Glen , I know that the Bruder is a little new for a WWII truck but its the right scale and looks cool, and Im a white star kind of guy.
I completed doing the stake bead sides and i am painting the green under coat now. I think it will look good parked in the batttle feild.
I may need Grege to make me some stars for it.

I am also putting my Purshing with a new BDU back together to test. I also put a new coat of paint on it and will detail it latter, just want to get it running for now.
Need to hunt KT...

Photos, Articles, & Research on the European Theater in World War II

"Pantiger, A Redesigned Tiger" from Tactical and Technical Trends

One of the first intelligence reports on the Tiger II, the new German heavy tank encountered in the fighting in Normandy, Tactical and Technical Trends, October, 1944. The odd name 'PanTiger' did not last long, and the Allies soon referred to the new tank as the Tiger II, King Tiger, or Royal Tiger.

[Editor's Note: The following article is wartime information on enemy equipment published for Allied soldiers. More accurate data on German weapons and equipment is available in postwar publications.]

PANTIGER, A REDESIGNED TIGER,
NEWEST ENEMY HEAVY TANK

A new 67-ton German heavy tank — referred to variously as Pantiger and Tiger II — has been employed against the Allies this summer in France. Actually a redesigned Tiger (Pz. Kpfw. VI), it mounts the 8.8-cm Kw. K. 43 gun. On the basis of a preliminary report, the general appearance of the new tank is that of a scaled-up Pz. Kpfw. V (Panther) on the wide Tiger tracks. It conforms to normal German tank practice insofar as the design, lay-out, welding, and interlocking of the main plates are concerned. All sides are sloping. The gun is larger than the Panther gun, and longer than the ordinary Tiger gun. Armor is also thicker than that on either the Panther or the Tiger. The turret is of new design, with bent side plates. In all respects the new tank is larger than the standard Tiger.

The Pantiger, latest German heavy tank.

Principal over-all dimensions of the redesigned Tiger are as follows:

Length _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 23 ft. 10 in.
Width _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 11 ft. 11 1/2 in.
Height _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 ft. 2 in.

Main armament is the 8.8-cm Kw. K. 43. It is equipped also with two machine guns (MG 34), one mounted coaxially in the turret and one mounted in the hull.

Armor thicknesses of the new tank are as follows:

Glacis plate _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 150-mm at 40° to 45°.
Hull side _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 80-mm vertical.
Superstructure side _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 80-mm at 25°.
Hull rear plates _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 80-mm at 25° (undercut).
Superstructure top plates _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 42-mm horizontal.
Turret front _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Approx. 80-mm (rounded).
Turret side _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 80-mm at 25°.
Turret rear _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 80-mm at 25°.
Turret roof _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 42-mm horizontal; front and rear sloped at about 5° from horizontal.

The suspension consists of front driving sprockets, rear idler, and independent torsion bar springing, with twin steel-rimmed rubber-cushioned disk bogie wheels on each of the nine axles on each side. The bogie wheels are interleaved, and there are no return rollers. Contact length of the track on the ground is about 160 inches.

Yup ..its offical, with a Picture.....for thouse who need pictures.... The Pan-Tiger Lives, Pan-Tiger owners rejoice, we are the 1% !!!

I would like to take this moment to thank Hang Long for having the foresight to produce a scale reproduction of a legendary tank such as the Pan-Tiger.
The Pan-Tiger that mysterious juggernaut that freely roamed the ETO striking fear into the harts of allied forces .
I beleave that General feldmarshell Erwin Rommel once referred to the Pan-Tiger as an unstoppable force of nature.
Tamiya dropped that ball...

I will also say that the Pan-Tiger did have issues with the smoke units in WW2 ,but they had be latter removed to make more room for ammunition storage.

Maybe, but the 3 colour camo is wrong.

Pantigers at Kursk were grey with patches of yellow applied by the crews.

Later versions were yellow base coat with green and brown striping, not irregular patches.

Rumours of the use of ambush pattern circulate in the modeling community, but these have not been absolutely proven with credible, historic data.

You'd certainly think they could have got the camo right.

Yes, it does.

For those who want to check the weather for Nov. 5th., here is a weather site for the area that is usually pretty accurate.
