Yeah, Im doing a complete conversion to Tamiya parts while turning it into a Jumbo. there are pics of it here just look up my Jumbo post.

The Mato Sherman opened a lot of possibilities. I built 6 IDF Shermans, based on tanks that served 1952-67. One M-51 rebuilt from a Tammy 105, (not shown) but rest use HL with R-18 and stock motors. The M-51 shown has a Mato upper hull with an early Tammy lower chassis, but the rest stay with the VVSS. The data plates will ID the tanks. IDF nomenclature is different from US. The M-3 is an M-4A3 75mm, upgraded with the V-8, one of the very few they had in 1952. M-1 is the real Super Sherman, unchanged Mato.. M-50s carry the French CN 75-50, derived from the Panther and M-51s carry a highly modified French D-1504 105mm.

Here are 3 different installs that I have worked on.. The first one is for our RCU member (Texchap) he painted it, I upgraded the electronics to EL MOD & recoiling barrel with flash.

Can anyone comment on the stock gears, ie how are they holding up. I changed mine over to HL, and I never even gave the mato gears a chance. Any comments.??

I've not had any problems, but I'm not running metal tracks either...

its only clean because I'd cleared it off in order to run the vacuum cleaner over it - rest assured it's deep in Panther D parts at the moment...

I've got stock gears in both my Shermans, I've had no problems with the 76mm (plastic tracks), and I've driven it hard at a few meets this year. I haven't really had a chance to push the firefly yet (metal running gear/tracks) but I'll run it untill it breaks then swap them for HL's

James clocked the 105 at slightly under the scale speed at Danville with those manky HL motors fitted, so no worries about scale speed requirements (tho that Jumbo might be sailing a little close to the wind for next year...)
