Good news on it having an aluminum barrel, which was sorely missed from the original kit.
Big savings!

Wow!
So finally it sounds like Tamiya was paying attention. I took the original kit and bought the "K" sprue from their now out of production static kit, which included the mantlet, DAK commander, inside hatch detail and feifle air cleaners to make my DAK Tiger back in 2006.
Ethan did the same to make his Bovington 131 Tiger, as did Doug another late member of DAK, but then again it was imporatnt to us as our club's entire theme surrounds the North African campaign
So Tamiya has now done the same and added PE grilles and aluminum barrel..........NICE!

woohoo...another re-hash..how exciting lol....They'd been better off to simply sell the upraded parts as a separate upgrade kit for exisiting owners or as an upgrade to the basic kit, but to include a few new parts and call it "New" is a bit rediculous....[:'(]

At least it is something, and let's us know they are still interested.
Please Tamiya release a RC 1/16 Comet or Valentine. I promise I will buy one.

This is one of the reasons I have never bought the tiger kit. Like Panther F has said it is a good thing. Many people will most likely welcome the upgrade of this kit.

Heck, I bought 2!! Of course one was to be the WECOHE Panther G, the other the Sturmtiger. So my remaining TI kit will be either an Early or the Vorpanzer.
Still need to get the aluminum barrel.

I wonder what's next....probably something like a "gold edition" Tiger I which is simply a standard kit with a big gold sticker on the box and a little certificate inside, yet they'll charge and extra $300 for it, and fools will probably still line up to buy them lol......pathetic [:'(]

My Feedback: (1)
Squid is right, a few of us at DAK did this mod with the "k" sprue from 36203 and there are 4 DAK tigers roaming our fields.
This is a nice rehash of an older kit and all they had to do was change the box. What we are failing to realize is this means Tamiya is regarding their 1/16 line with interest and as long as that continues we may get into something exotic soon.
My wish list is always Sherman related but even if they pumped out a T-34 the new parts alone make the battlefields of the world a little happier.... wait, that doesn't sound right.

I would rather see a late model tiger. Imo they look much more aggresive.

A new T34/76 would be greatly appreciated.

It's unfortunate that this is the best they can do. A warmed over Sherman, followed by a warmed over Tiger. I guess it is interest in their products, but lukewarm at best.

What Tamiya should do is host some kind of a poll with like ten tanks/halftracks/whatever kind of RC armor they are considering producing on their website and let people place a vote(maybe even have an "other" vote for tanks not on the list. Then they would know better where to spend their R&D money........just an idea...they would have enough info to make a tank a year for like decade lol....

Tamiya had released Panther, JagdPanther, Panzer IV, KV1 and KV2 all in the space of a little more than a couple of years not so long ago - all of it paid for by profits they made before everything went over the cliff. With the world economy is still busy scraping itself back up off the pavement, can you really blame them for rehashing old product rather than spend $$$$$$ on developing a new one
It is a pretty low investment / low risk way keep people interested and talking about their products, and as Jeff said - for every one of you who come onto these threads to denounce Tamiya for not spending a ton of cash to make you personally happy, there's many others who lusted after the old Leopard kits when they were younger, or had the pre full option Tiger and Sherman kits and subsequently ebayed them because they basic looking or didn't do much - who now might be tempted to come back to the hobby now that there's a 'better' version out there. As somebody remarked in a thread a while back, nostalgia can be a powerful marketing tool [:-]

Very true, howeverTamiya were a little late to the party, as every one of those models were already availbale from HL(other then KV-2)....kinda hard to brag about new tanks when another company has already released the same ones lol......and HL still managed to do a panzer IIIAND sturmgeschutz(which Tamiya hasn't even touched)! If they are gonna spend all this money doing R&D it would make more sense to put models on the market nobody else is already doing......I'm not knocking Tamiya, Ijust think their marketing director is on crack.......where's Donald Trump when you need him..
