Upgrading electronics

I understand that the sound board is needed. Do I still have to have an Rx18 or DMD/MF unit to plug them into is my question. I am not using either one of them in the scratch builds, but want to add sound to them. All I have are ESC's and hobby Rx. in them. Is there a stand alone sound board that will enable me to do this?

No the Benedini works without an Rx 18, and can be configured to work on it's own if that is what you wish to do. I worked with David to make the DBC3 do some Auto Benedini programming to make it simple for people who have RX 18's. However if you don't require this the Benedini TBS can work as a stand alone sound card. That is it's primary function and design. I just worked with Thomas and David to do some tweaking to make a complete package for those that want one.
To be absolutely clear the Benedini TBS is a stand along sound card that can be used with any standard RX. To get engine sounds out of it is pretty straight forward, to unlock the rest of the sound addresses gets a little more complicated and will require some time scratching your way up a learning curve.
I do stock these for sale into North America. Shipping from Europe is crazy, so I bring in a bunch to spread the shipping costs over more items.
Cheers

Well there's plenty for me to think about there. I'm sure I will go for a hobby radio some day as well as either a benedini, elmod or SLU. For the time being though I need to get a new rx18 to know for sure whether it can handle these motors. At least then I'll know whether to get a sound module that works with or without the rx18. The thing is, I'm happy with everything about my Abrams now, I even have a recoil blocker. Its just the sounds that annoy me but not enough to spend more than something like 50 quid.
Thanks for the input guys. By the way does anyone know what version number the latest rx18 is and where I can get one that I know is the latest version? I guess the new ztz99 will have one.

I would try Phil at rctankwars.com for a new board. He has come through on many occasions for things others do not seem to have and stands by his work and products. Email him for best response.

I see you are in the UK. Forgebear is a very good supplier of things on your side of the pond

I have no experience with them and I haven't even heard much about them but another option would be Model Sounds from Canada. Their soundclip page shows they have an Abrams sound set, but I don't see that you can actually listen to it.
This looks to be another stand-alone sound board that would work if you were using a hobby radio.

Yup, so thats another option if I end up upgrading. Thanks.
I've bought items from Forgebear before and he's a great guy to deal with. Think I will actually order from him because I reckon he'll know about the rx18 versions. Fingers crossed it holds out!

Quick update guys, turns out it was the recoil blocker I was using that blew and not the rx18. Goes to show if you use a fan these boards can handle quite a lot now. Going to try and do the 2 x rx18 mod to block the track recoil and order the high voltage flash as I was using the LED that came with the recoil blocker.
Looks like I'll be sticking with the rx18 now and means I could go down the DBC Benedini route.

Not sure where you sent the email, but I never received it. I big apology to all who send me email through RC universe. It goes to an account I forgot I had!!!. I just changed it to my main email account, so the problem should be resolved now.
