RE: Mr-Design Gearboxes?
Panther F; I bought, built and am currently running these in my KT. I got tired of the Impact trans stripping gears in an hour or so of combat. My KT tips the scale at almost 17lbs. The Mr Gearboxes have been a God send. They have ten times the hours then the Impacts with out any problems, they have way more torque and run a great scale speed. For the money I would say you get what you pay for. I am currently looking into ones for my Panther D build which is on hold at the moment. So as you can see I would not hesitate to purchase them again. They were fun to build!!!

RE: Mr-Design Gearboxes?
I have a set in my Tiger I that streetsquid is painting and weathering right now. I also have a set that I'm building right now for my King Tiger (Marcel Rientjes sends the complete parts and you build them yourself). And I'm going to be getting a set for my Panther build when my refund comes. They are very tough (I like to think they're bullet proof), they have realistic off road speed, they have great torque (if your into that like me) and they look great in a tank. Marcel (Mr-Design) is very friendly and answered all my questions on the BTN forum (just sign up and send him a PM):

It takes the gearbox parts about two-three weeks to arrive once you order them. And the price is 220 eur, but it's worth it in my opinion and it's cheaper than the Wecohe uprade geraboxes.
Here are pics of my gearboxes before I put them in the Tiger (keep in mind I had them in my KV-1/2 for awhile before selling the KV-1/2), keep in mind the ratio on these gearboxes is 150:1:

I believe his VK 4502 P has them:

And here he has faster gears (you can order them with the gearboxes, which I plan for my Panther):

RE: Mr-Design Gearboxes?
So, we're talking almost $300.00 for this kit? And how far must you go in the "build them yourself"? Are they already drilled for the bearings/shaft placement? All we must do is install them into the tank of our choice and assemble them?
I too feel the IMPACT woes (and have seen them too) so my next big build needs some heavy metal units because I don't want to keep on putting band aids as I shake down a tank I just built.
Thanks for any and all answers too!
EDIT: Oh yes, I do remember that Löwe too.

RE: Mr-Design Gearboxes?
Here are the instructions for building the Tiger I gearboxes (fits King Tiger, Tiger KV-1/2 and Panther):
http://mrdesigngearboxes.webs.com/manualtigeri.htm
The only thing your going to be cutting are the shafts, and brass spacing, I did the cutting with a hacksaw and vise. You'll need a to notch the shafts for the allen screws (you see them in the pics). It's real easy...the first time I did it I was afraid of screwing up but it turned out great!

Ah, I see. Not too big a deal then.
Thanks for the replies and testimonials too. I'll have to keep him in mind for the next big build that I do not have a gearbox for.
Maybe that elefant?

Are they a necessity? NO! But for the application I'm using them for ... yes.
Is it a lot of dough? Yes!
The gearbox in your Tamiya Pershing will be fine, just lube it with a plastic safe oil.
