Dusting/Weathering effect?

To simulate dust on your running gear/road wheels and lower half of the hull, what color and technique do you use?
I just tried the Tamiya color "Flat Flesh" while others have said to use "Buff". Straight out of the rattle can the FF looks good, better than relying on pigments to hold, but I wonder if there is a better solution and or color?
What do you use?

Eventually even that will wear off. My Pershing can testify to that. I even sealed the REAL dirt.
But this is for a 1/15 shelf queen. She ain't going anywhere.

floquil has a color called Mud which works for me. Mix 50/50 with thinner and run it through an airbrush at 20psi. Looks really good on
OD, but if you over spray, it can look a little light.

Sorry to say, but a rattle can is not the best way to do this. I use an airbrush with the dirt/dust color I want to apply thinned and apply in such a way that it dries very quickly. Almost as soon as it hits the surface of the wheels and running gear. Colors I use tend to be light earth or sand colors. If it were Vietnam it would be sort of a Georgia red clay color. IDF maybe grey/sand. German in Europe, light earth and German in North African desert, Tamiya Desert Yellow. Really the color can be what ever you want, just needs to be applied with an airbrush to get the best result because you can play with the air pressure and the paint to get the right look.

Thanks for that tip!
I'll get some pics together once it's completed. It's basically a REAL Tiger I 1/15 BANDAI kit dressed out to look like one of the fake Tigers (imagine that, a real Tiger looking like a fake one) from the movie "Kellys Heroes" that are actually T34s. I wasn't about to take a nice T34 and make a TI out of it. This BANDAI kit wasn't going to get any RC gear so it's a movie prop ... sort of and it's been sitting around half finished since 2004.
I DO have a 1/15 BANDAI StuG IV that will get the RC treatment afterall. That and the HOOBEN Elefant will run side-by-side.

I used mig powder on my 1/48 KT to make dirt and dust

And to tone down the camo I just tappet a brush in european dust and some other mig dust's I don't remenber right now and did the whole tank, like drybrushing. A little more work to do in 1/16 :-) But I have done it on my 1/16 KT
to, just not whole yeat,
