Default Modification Supplies

I have been following many of the build threads. Awesome work. What material would be used in scaling the chassis and top. I see plasitc sheets ,types of fillers etc. Which are the best to use as for fabricating parts. Does anyone do resin castings or can you order a custom part with drawings. I use ACAD and inventor and can draw out designs in 2 and3D and would like a fellow modeller that is a machinist to fabricate these items. Some of my skills from Scale RC aircraft comes into play. But definately need more information on Scaling the hell out of my tanks.

Any favorite books on this type of work. I have some on scale amour modeling, Weathering , etc.

Going Metal a plus over plastic. Whats the downfall?

Got a HL M41 and I'm getting ready to rip it apart and get it up to scale, Get the new electronics in it, and have a viable machine for battle.

Thanks for any thoughts

Bill

Hi Bill ... most of my work is conversions so use a lot of Evergreen Styrene....sheets, tubes, bars and I beams.. Seems you have a tab on a lot of the normal stuff, like green putty etc. Nick Aguilar ([email protected]) makes resin molds and there are a number of sites in England and Germany who have upper chassis upper and turrets for conversion mods. Build-A-Rama.com has some really nice items for stowage...it's 1;18 but for stowage materials, other than not mixing with 1;16 Jerry Cans, no big deal.(photo 2&4) Micro-Mark.com has great tools designed for modellers and also carries Rust-All for weathering and a neat product called Micro-Glaze to fill replicate glass in commanders episcopes.(photo 1 &3)) You will probably be getting a lot of responses with links to various suppliers. Some some suppliers are geared to specific areas ; ie German Armor etc, so you have to be specific in what you want. If you need figures to augment the tank, Smalljoes.com has many 1;18 scale highly detailed figures in many nationalities which many of us use for tank crews. Lots of guys use metal lower chassis, but I have always stayed with plastic. My models are mainly for display or museum activities and not used for banging around and hard abuse of IR "battling", so plastic does me OK. I have posted a segment on making periscopes on War Room, using plexiglass mirror scraps.

The HL M-41 is a bit too big and not to scale for 1;16 but like most HL tanks, it can be doctored up to make it more realistic albeit nothing to scale it down. I's a good, solid runner and a favorite. I converted mine to an M-41B Brazilian model, which in many ways, hides the inacurate scale..

Welcome aboard to the self induced agrivation hobby.

I doing diassembly now. and taking pictures. I'm going to do the SUGO mod on the 3rd and 4th road wheels. I also am designing and building the replacment assy for the Airsoft to convert to IR and with a recoiling barrel and servo elevation. I'll post the progress when some of my parts arrive. So for now it's hurry up and wait.
