Default Wanting to build a 1/10 scale Tank

Hello!
I am really interested in building a 1/10 - 1/8 scale T-90 tank but from what i have seen, the internal work is just a nightmare to think about! I really dont get how the gearbox works and WHY does it need so many gears?
What remote to use? what electronics are recomended? how to build the suspension?
please post some tricks and tips for a beginner
THANK YOU!

Hmmmm, 1/10th you say? I've had a bit of experience with that scale.

The transmission does not need to be complex; it could be as simple as one gearhead motor
per track with a proportional dual motor control unit to provide steering.

To paraphrase Amadeus: there are always just enough gears to do what is needed....

If this isn't much help, and it isn't, that's because the field is wide open as to what may be done.
You didn't say electric power but I assume so; glow or gas can be complex so I'd stay away from those
for your first project.

Oh yes and if you decide on 1/10 scale, congratulations for choosing the perfect scale!

why is 1/10 perfect? After seeing the 1/6 i thought those were perfect (1/4 being too big).

1/6 scale seems too big for me, 1/10 is just perfect. Its not too big and not too small and i guess the parts are easier to find like a 1/8 scale buggy motor will do.
do you think that i can just skip the gears and put 2 motors to the rear?

In 1:6th scale you will find some accessories, action figures, other vehicles and so on, in 1:10th scale it is more difficult to find accessories for the tanks AND OTHER TANKS.
Dual electric motor solution with dual ESC is the better solution, geared motors are present everywhere, start the search in robot stores, they have some motors.
But, before chosing a motor, you must have clear ideas about the overall weight of the model and the speed of it.
Depending on these factor you can choose the perfect motors with sufficient power and speed.
Look obviously also to the battery you will use as it is the part who will power all the things.
What about tracks? They are the most difficult parts to be made.

There is next to nothing on the market in 1:10th scale as far as parts or tracks or anything. Basically everything will need to be hand made.

That's not altogether true. What is true is that there are a few makers in 1:10 scale and their products are not inexpensive. Most current
1:10 scale products are made at a high standard and are just downright expensive. As with all scales what percentage of the model one chooses
to make themselves is discretionary.

Having collected, operated and built 1:10 scale models over the last 38 years I feel justified in saying that.

If the criterion is to be able to walk into the local hobby shop and buy parts then yes they are not available.

Let me list a few makers of kits, parts and such, these are the more common:

http://www.panzermodellbau-hermann.de/

http://www.sonderfahrzeug-modellbau.com/

http://www.stehr-modellbau.de/

http://www.vierm.eu/index.htm

https://www.wecohe.de/shop/

http://www.giesswerk.de/index.htm

None of these are inexpensive! But if one wants a 1:10 model they've got them. There are about 2 or 3 others that come to mind but they're
more private makers that sell some of their work. As may be readily seen Germany still plays host to the largest following of 1:10
scale devotees anywhere. 1:10 scale has had more than its share of model engineers among its ranks, in part because there is a tendency
to make much of a model ones self. In North America 1:10 remains an uncommon scale.

A 1:6th scale tank is normally not too big (depending on tank) to be difficult to load in a normal city car. Obviously bigger tanks as leopard II, king tiger and others will be much longer than a T34 (for example) or a panzer III.

I think that T90 is one of that "big" tanks, so before choosing it or 1:6th scale you may consider to measure your car.

The tracks are the problem as I told. This for every scale you choose, but, rctanks.ru makes the t90 in 1:8th scale. You can contact them at least for the tracks and the sprockets.

Details are not awesome for the resin models, but they are good for who want a starting base.

1:8th scale has the same defect as the 1:10th scale... it is very difficult to find accessories and parts, and other people that have them.

All i really want right now is to figure out how to make the hull and what electronics to get.
All the externals will be made up later but i dont want it to be like crazy detailed! i just want a functioning tank that is fast and reliable.
i am not looking to spend any money on stuff thats already made up except for electronics and other materials.
I am also thinking about putting a paintball pistol that shoots the smaller 9mm paintballs in the turret.
Anybody has some tips and tricks on how to make one?

Any of those wouldn't fit in my Mustang... Guess no big tanks until we buy a bigger car LOL!

Anyone have links for 1/10 r/c tanks? So far i found a couple that are very expensive.

you only need 2 dc geared motors
2 ESC
2 servos or 2 other motors for turret.
But, Sprocket and tracks are your main problem, not the hull (use sheets of metal, fiberglass or plastic)

Try this site. They do R/C Tank paintball combat and build their own tanks.

If you just want a large tank to punt around, consider this:

Yes Tanque you are correct but for someone who has no previous expierience or skills my statement is closer to the truth.
The availability is no where near close to be what it needs for a new hobbiest, so it is best to steer him to a more common scale.
No mis information was intendend just the hard facts.

Try this robot vender. They have motors and controllers that may work for you.
