Default Tamiya Tiger 1 Questions

I have a full option Tamiya tiger I. The recoil unit works fine out of the tank, but seems to stick on and then doesn't work until I remove it again. The cannon seems to move smoothly with the recoil unit removed, and the linkage is all in good order. Is the recoil unit bad? are there any fixes? Thoughts or suggestions?

Also, it is my understanding that Tamiya changed gearboxes over time. Is there a way to tell early gearboxes from later?

Thanks,

Andy

This is one foible usually fixed with some elbow grease. The assembly can become bent and you may need to flex the whole recoil unit up or down a little with the bracket to get the gun into battery. If it is bent, be gentle and you can put the gun tube back into alignment. I have also used a little of the white tamiya grease on the rails of the actual recoil unit.

Remember...... I suggest this type repair only if you can confirm the recoil unit assembly is out of whack. I experienced this problem with several DAK club Tigers and they had all been through some abuse.....

Is the barrel rubbing against the inside of the mantlet. You might have to bend the mounting bracket holding the recoil unit in place. The newer gears have the black plastic plastic covers over the gears, the older set is open no covers .I think Karen on AAF MEAUSEM has the older ones pictured /posted on her site for the tiger I in the parts ection for rc tanks,

Thank you for the replays!

Is there a different gearing between the "open" or plastic covered gearboxes?

Again, thank you for the information!

I was able to fix the recoil.

As suggested, I gently bend the bracket the recoil unit bolts to.

Thank you!

Not sure a 100% if there is a difference between them besides the plastic cover, so I would say no there is not.
