Default KV1s Now with 122 mm

Well I finally got around to doing something with my HL KV1. Turned it into a KV1s

Currently the tank has the 76 mm cannon, but I want to put in an 85 mm, with a muzzle brake to make it look meaner. I think I have been playing too much WOT

Fuel tanks are copper plumbing cut to size with styrene saddles.

Looks good Dan! Are the saddles custom made or were they part of a kit?

The KV1S in World of Tanks is my most-hated tier 6 tank to go up against... big gun, high rate of fire but still agile.. it eats my mediums alive

Jeff

The fuel tanks are copper plumbing pipe. The fuel hatches are lego nubbin ends cut off and inserted upside down into a hole drilled in the top of the tank. Saddles and bands are styrene. The handles are strip styrene bent to shape. Took me less then an evening to make all four.

After this picture was taken I noticed I needed to extend the turret casting on the lower section towards the rear more. So this has been done.

Bob

I will take some more pictures. Maybe focus on the fuel tanks a little more. I will probably add a how to on my web page to demo what I have done to make these auxilary tanks.

A few more little things, and then into the paint booth.

Looks great! But you need the big derp!! I really like the use of legos as the fuel caps, good thinking.

Strato50, the key to beating the KV-1s is tracking it or hitting the fuel tanks.  Mine is a beast head to head but once tracked i'm dead in the water to get picked apart.

Have you fought them after the stealth nerf?

I have a maxed out KV-1S in WoT. Pre-patch i use to get consistant high-score.

Now... i get taken out by a derp M4 EASILY. Me and Freaky were astoundish... i think he got taken out by a Panzer IV....

I'm not sure how they nerfed it, but i have noticed i bounce my 122mm a LOT more, accuracy isn't what it use to be and for some weird reason... i got Tier IV and V that keeps getting critical hits on me now.

Yes please YHR on some close ups of the aux tanks. The Lego idea is excellent. I made an external tank a year ago, and the filler cap looks a bit like an Evenflo baby bottle nipple...so that ain't good! Excellent turret work, too.

Looks great Dan. I do have to agree with an above poster, the 122mm gun is what sets off the looks of this tank. Not sure if that would take it into the paper panzer catagory but it just slloks so good and balanced with it.

Another fine tank,

Perry

I hear you and really struggled keeping the 76 mm with this chassis. I am going to build a whole mantlet and recoil assembly that I can just drop into this to give me the 122mm. Yes it will be a paper panzer at that point, but it will look really good.

Not sure about stealth, but a derp is the biggest gun for the tank.... Slow reload time, but if you get hit by a round it will turn you around in your pants lol.

Cheers

The stealth nerf was when they changed the tanks and didn't let anyone know about it. before they did it the kv-1s was an unstoppable beast, now it gets tracked and picked apart....

A stealth nerf is a negative change to an item that is not published by the developers.
Derp is a, usually, negative term deriving from the Derp song. In World of tanks it usually signifies an unusually powerful gun firing HE ammunition.

The KV-1s hasn't been nerfed it is just as powerful as it always was and in fact more so since they changed the tier spread. More and more people are using the 105mm Sherman with premium ammo (higher armour penetration) which is why they kill far more often than they used too. The KV-1s has particularly weak armour making it an easy target.

I beg to differ, never a Panzer IV or M4 (derp or not) could take down my KV-1S (or mates) so easily pre 8.4. This isn't only for M4 and Pz IV, other tanks are doing the same.

They changed the % of critical hit chance on the KV-1S (higher chance of someone hitting you for a critical damage).

This isn't a new thing since they introduce credits to buy premium ammo, this is purely a 8.4 stealth change.

But this is veering the awsome build off topic, so back on topic.

I demand a 122mm ASAP! YHR don't dissapoint your fans!

Looks like I need to roughen up the turret a bit. A couple of areas need to have the rougher casting look. Some spot filler and a paper towel will make short work of that.

Can you share the paint brand? What kind of prep/application do you do? Looks very good for a metallic color.
