REAL Sherman tank gunners scope
Picked up a PERFEX M70 F TELESCOPE dated 1944 and decided to mount it some way to give the idea of what it was to look through the scope and aim it. I used a old metal tripod..
then I took the scope to Lowes to try to figure a way to mount it to tripod.(got a few questions about what it was lol) After wandering around i came upon a piece of plumbing with twist ends on it and rubber seals inside. So it slide over
scope and holds it securely with out damaging scope. Used two hose clamps to secure it to a piece of iron with holes and bought a nut and washed that fit the tripod camera bolt tightened it all down and painted it O.D works pritty good
and is very stable .Also have gunners sight for a m5 stuart that will fit in it.

Nice find....you could have bought a surplus 75mm gun cradle and all the mounts would have been there Did you get a good deal on them? Unusual to have the gunner's head rest with it..
I had a 75mm scope on my little TD but had to make an ad hoc mount as it was on the left instead of right. My subcaliber 12 ga shotgun took out a pistol target at nearly 200 yards with 00 and I had guys bugging me to take it out deer hunting. .
Now, [>:] mount it close to the driver on the dash between the driver and passenger seats with a tube almost to the windshield...police and security would go nuts...

RE: REAL Sherman tank gunners scope
I paid $31.00 for Sherman scope with out face piece. $50.00 for the M5 one with face piece and scope.
I also have a M4A1 PERISCOPE just need to find the scope to go inside it. Have a M39A2 scope but its the wrong one. []

Very cool. Are you a collector or plan on building your own Sherman tank?
There's a lot of those going very reasonable on eBay. I'd like to get a drivers periscope myself.

M-4A1 was the gunner's periscope with adjustable reticle on the right side..by scope to put in, is the gun sight missing?. That's going to be hard to find. The standard persiscope was the M-6 and carried thru the M-46. Great deal on prices....when you get your Sherman finished, you'll be all set. Does your 75mm scope have the range reticle in the center or going up the left side? In the center was better as you could adjust the second round easier. Nice thing about M-41-26/46 there wasn't much diff in the gunners telescopes and they could be swapped out if they took a round and they were secondary sights anyway.. Not familiar with the M-39A2. From the high number probably a mid 50s-late 60s.

The Scope M39A2 mounts inside a M8A1 periscope. sorry for the confusion. Yes the scope is missing from the inside of the M4A1 gunners periscope.

Nice, the same one I had and easy to use. Why they ever got beyond 3000 yds for the GP 75mm is a riddle. The gunner had to adjust his sight on the reticle depending on the ammo....For HE or WP, had to aim a couple mils higher as the sight picure was based on AP ammo. Same technique for the 90mm on the Pershing ,M-36 & M-46. The side dashes were lead lines for tracking a moving target but rarely did the gunner go beyond the first as the speed of most targets was slow. Took a bit of training to be an accurate gunner and since the scope moved with the gun cradle, the gunner had to really cramp down when the gun was elevated. It was not articulated like the tiger. . Nice find and thanks for posting. Brings back memories.
