DO NOT DO THIS!
Ever want to change the paint on your tank? Purple Power is a great way to take the old paint off, and does not harm plastic.
So my H/L Tiger 1 (301 of 505pz) was broken down to the base parts and into the purple bath, andthat included my aluminum barrel
Here I am three days later and out comes the parts almost free of paint, but I cannot find my barrel. I know I put it in there. The brass Brake is there. So I dumped the purple power out and what was in the bottom a very pitted 1/4 inch bit of my barrel, that is all. It looked like the monster from ALIEN bled on it.
So let me understand, this stuff does nothing to plastic but eats aluminum?
WOW!

RE: DO NOT DO THIS!
Oops, I had purchased some Purple Power the other month to strip a tank that had a lot of heavy coats of paint that needed soaking, glad I didn't use it now and stuck with oven cleaner and break fluid.

Yikes.
Reminds me of when I was a kid, I built a halftrack with figures and didn't like the way I painted them so I dropped them in a mason jar of turps overnight. In the morning it was an empty crystal clear jar and I accused everyone in the house of stealing them, until finally I found the styrene residue at the bottom.

It ( Purple Power) clearly is a strong base ( as opposed to an acid ). Basic solutions will ( obviously ) damage aluminum. 409 cleaner, most septic solutions
that include Sodium Hydroxide will just chew the snot out of aluminum. Too bad you didn't post the question on the forum beforehand.
It you just want to etch the surface to get a good paint surface basic solutions are great, just a quick in and out and really good rinse.

Is this the same product sold in home depot made by Zep. I used this on /in the engin room on the tug I used to run when cleaning the bulkheads, overheads main engines bilges etc ,had some run /drip off the rubber gloves I was using and left scares in my ares, will remove unwanted tattoos.so if it is the same stuff be careful.
