Well I suppose with all the things that have been happening people are fearful for their lives, especially with a 50 cal barking and sending out gun flashes. Unfortunate maybe, but I think this reaction from the public should have been expected with the horrific mass shootings that the US public has endured this past year.

Not everyone is in tune with Historic WWII weaponry.

An act of terrorism? What did he blow up? Didn't they see the white star on the side of the vehicle?

Now HE won't make it on the cover of Rolling Stones I bet!

I'm not someone who sees terrorists behind every corner or thinks terrorism is an excuse to change the way I live (even after experiencing both Trade Center attacks) and I enjoy studying history as much as anyone, as well as armor, etc, but if someone decided to drive that down my block when my kids were outside playing, I would want to beat him to a bloody pulp.

I can only imagine what a first responder would feel when confronting that, real or not. I applaud their restraint in dealling with him.

I never met the guy, but some of the Detroit crew know him - We have attended a few of his shows over the years.

Now, on the one hand its easy to blame the dumb*****'s who called the cops on a disarmed ww2 vehicle driving around - on the other there was that guy a few years ago in San Diego who stole the M60 from the local National Guard depot, and went on a rampage with it... [X(]

Given that a few years ago the was the incident during the St Clair Shores show, where the US Army re-enactors decided it would be a good idea to take a jog thru the neighbourhood in full kit one evening after the show - causing panicked residents to call the local PD - He probably should have known better. The re-enactors just got a telling off just for running around in full kit (without firing their weapons) and were told to stick to the show grounds - if he was indeed firing his 50 cal, whether it was a blank firer or the propane powered replica's we use over here, that's pretty dumb [&:] and he does deserve that night in the cells.

I just hope all they do is slap his wrists tho. Over here they'd probably confiscate all his toys and throw him in jail for a good stretch [&o] - and that's assuming the armed response unit didn't just shoot him dead on the spot...

Some reason I can't view the video, what exactly was he doing? Can't see anything wrong with driving an ex military vehicle on the road, if road legal. There's a fella over here has a road legal t-55, I wodee if people would kick off in the states if they saw it being driven?!

According to the cops he was firing the 50 cal on his M20 at 11pm. The guy in question is an experienced re-enactor who has organised many shows in the Detroit area over the years - bottom line, he should have known better...

Also to add for the benefit of non-Michiganders, you aren't allowed fireworks that shoot higher than 6ft off the ground either - things that go bang in the night are heavily regulated...

LOL, I just heard on the radio that Detroit has filed for Bankruptcy protection.

In their filing papers, they say the police department is in shambles...51 min response time to an emergency call...cars that are mechanically unfit for service and often break down...and a murder rate that's the highest in 40 years. YET they have time and resources sufficient to bust this guy....

It wasn't Detroit PD that busted him - Shelby Township is a long way from Detroit - He'd probably had never made it thru Detroit without either getting shot up or car jacked...

Detroit city is a shambles, the bankruptcy was overdue by about 20 years [&:]

This is so typical of John Q Sillyvilian...anything that is OD and has a gun of any type is a tank. The M-20 is not a tank and had virtually no armor and this guy's gun is like mine set up for O2/propane. Granted, unless on a major holiday such as 4 July New Years or D Day, he should not be firing that thing so late and then only after notifying authorities. My tank used a 12 gauge shotgun with black powder blanks and my cal 50 was 02/propane, People here didn't mind...and some said it was cool for neighborhood watch. The M-20 doesn't even have tracks that one can feel or hear as it rolls down the street. Where does this fit in "stand your ground?" [:-]

lol! lets keep the politics out of this one tho, Bill

There are regular parades around Metro Detroit during the summer months - as I said, the Gentleman in question organised a lot of them, if not all - but weapon fire is a no-no as far as I am aware.

First off, did everyone else cringe when they first read about this "tank"...? hehe I know I did :P

Also, I'll save the political rant about the state of affairs & nervous tendencies to my southern neighbours.. I think armored cars are the coolest thing ever and I'd like to imagine nobody in this household would report one

I hear you - that some people used the "Terrorism!!!" card when calling 911 after hearing a few small bangs should be punishable by a few days in the county jail for wasting police time [:@]

The news did not say why he is in jail...     perhaps he was driving drunk.

By 11 pm on independance day I had consumed some beers, perhaps his lack of judgment came in a bottle.

The LOL was for calling it a "tank"

That was my T-16 retrofitted as a tank killer.
It's the one sitting at Danville, but the previous owner took all the goodies out (gun, ammo, machine gun, main gun mount) as well as ruined the engine.

Now that's a hobby!!! It sure was a speedy little devil, Thanks for sharing the video. It's a shame so much great equipment was destroyed after WWII. I understand that over 100,000 of the T 16/Universal carriers were built. I would love to have one. This photo brings tears to my eyes ....

That photo shows Bren Carriers. The T-16 was the American Ford version with 4 road wheels and a bigger engine, built for England. . Only a few were used by the USA, due to inability to get through the Japanese, the T-16s wound up with Australian and US troops on a couple islands in PTO. As Rommel did with the Brens he captured, many were fitted with armament to combat the Japanese tankettes which were running through the jungles where none of the big equipment could get at them. T-16s can be found to restore..Military Vehicles Mag...etc. Not terribly expensive and not difficult to work with. The tracks are "flat bar steet track" and OK for city streets.
