Question Perplexed By Pershing

I am having the darnest time figuring out why this used Pershing is not taking hits. Tried new GFS base and new apple. Could it be the DMD?

Might be the mfu. Although have you made sure it's not in test mode?

check the slide switches that set light, med, heavy. forget which way is test mode, both facing inwards? Also did you make sure to have the apple in before you turned it on?

You have a pershing NOW? Also take a look at the black wire that comes out of the 5 pin plug for the apple on the MFU. That pin tends to come out. James showed me that in March and it fixed our pershing.

The black cable to the GFS base was bad and had to yank it out. So was the flash unit out of the used tank. I wonder if Tamiya will replace these two items. Thanks guys for all your help.

The flash unit isn't covered by a lifetime warranty since there's a lot of wear and tear on them and they can fail with normal use. I'd check those connectors and wires as well, I thought my Tiger I flash was bad from the MFU since the unit worked in other tanks, but never had the downtime to send it back to Tamiya, Then one day when I was doing other maintenance, I found it was just a shifted pin in the connector and everything's fine now.

You can get the crimpable connector ends (or entire housings), it'd be a good idea to be able to replace things like that since they can break with normal usage. We all know how cramped the interiors can get and wires can be pulled loose.

I've had them replace flash units and sometimes not. It's hit or miss. As to the GFS base unit wire, I've had a couple fail there too. Seems to be their weak spot. Fortunately, they do sell just the base unit if you need to replace it. Glad you got it going.

Ok. I just realized how much heavier this tank is. Do the factory tracks come in plastic or half metal and half plastic like the Sherman? The ones on here I believe are all metal.

They are mostly plastic, with just the pins and the outside links being metal.
