Default frequency change, halftrack

Hi Guys,

I've got one of those Torro 1/16 halftracks and I'd like to run a pair but I hear you can't run them two at a time as the frequencies are the same in all units. Does anyone know how to go about changing the frequency in one of them? I'd even be willing to go with a better TX/RX system if I could find one that would work with a minimum of hassle. I'm pretty new to this stuff so I don't want to get in over my head. I just wired up a mato all metal panzer, though, so I do know a little. Damn little. :-) So what do y'all think? Can it be done? Two halftracks running side by side?

I have 2 as well... both are on a different channel.

Have you double checked?

Hey Panther (cool handle),

Thanks for the info. No, I haven't checked, I'm going on the word of the guy that sells them. Maybe I'll just buy another and see what happens, but it would sure be nice to know I can fix it if I have to.

Yes....I would like to know if you can change the frequencies too. At FRAG we have 3 and wish to operate them all at the same time. PP

I do not know if it is 27MHz or 2.4 GHz but 27 MHz allows a choice of crystals and 2.4 GHz gives each unit a unique channel when you initialise or bind the transmitter when you operate it for the first time. Am I off your point or have I actually helped????? shaun

You are correct. Rc crystals usually look like this:

http://everything-rc-cars.com/images/rc-crystals.jpg

And have the frequency marked on the tag. I don't have any experience with the torro halftrack, but usually there is a spot where you can swap out crystals on controllers if its 27mhz. Just check and see what the frequencies are for each. If they are the same, you can just buy some different frequency ones online.

All the RC halftracks I have ever had and sold have been on the same channel 27 AM. Even the older ones. These are super RC models for their price. Metal suspension, all rubber tires, even on the boggy wheels...LOL. The front leaf springs would be easy to make functional but very few guys know that it does have a front coil spring suspension....check yours guys. Real servos for the steering and gun elevation. The drive shaft and differential are very high quality. A very nice dashboard and many details in the cargo/gun area. The four M2 gun barrel are brittle but the gun carriage swivels 360 all day long. The radio range it not very good but the front headlight and tail lights make up plus the bonus of the two really detailed and pose-able figures. There is even a plug for a NMHi battery pack to eliminate the AA batts. There is a heat sink on the motor to keep it cool. note the screw from the factory stuck to the magnets.

There is a crystal soldered into the TX, but the RX is built into the board. Here are a few pix.

If you want one drop me a PM... but don't wait long! I have some parts too.

You would need an entirely new electronics package. i believe Clarke makes a board for a half track. ElMod does also but is much more exspensive.

I put a new radio system in mine and used an RX18, DBC3 and Benedini to bring this model up to a radio system it deserves. As Bob mentioned it is a really good model, and I wish I had bought another one when Hobby raw was blowing them out for cost.

I lost the Quads though and went with a tarpaulin cover on mine

You mention buying another halftrack. Do you have a link to someone who is still selling them?

Hey Jim,
I see Bob sent you a message about getting a halftrack. That's where I got mine and I was very satisfied. Bob's pretty cool, but the important thing is that I've found him to be honest. I'm trying hard to have the money for another halftrack by the middle of this month. So if you're reading, Bob, I'm still on it so I hope you're still holding me one. :-)

Hey Dan. I have the 21st Century Half track with the quad 50's. It is 1:18 scale. i would not be opposed to taking the gun mount off and selling it if no one wants the entire half track this week end. If it would work for you and you are interested let me know. i would be happy to send it to you. Would be a nice project to get them operational.

Let me know as soon as you are ready. They go fast. Last one sold in less than two hours of my posting it.

Hi Sean,

I am sorry but I did not see this question until today. I guess you are enjoying the M16 you got at Danville. Yes, these can be upgraded. ElMod used to make a system but I don't think it caught on. I have never seen one with that system. I am rebuilding the M3 Halftrack that I have used at NEAD events & Danville as a camera platform. It will IR battle with a DBU system. The Tamiya takes up too much room. It will be a light but fun none the less. It had a good normal hobby quality servo for the steering and elevation. Traverse is continuous via a contact plate and gear reduction. Stay tuned. More to come.

liar, liar, pants on fire there Bob - you can still get the boards, tho you have to solder on the socket for the CSI these days...

I have 1 in service, plus one under construction - they ain't cheap, but they do work well.

Read carefully.....I said they used to make one.... but never said that they stopped Martin. LOL.That board was definitely not popular.

Reving up for the Europe trip yet? Know what is missing from this picture. YOU!

You and your mate did make this one. David Fletcher sure does make us look tall doesn't he?

Ah, but you are using the past tense when you say "they used to make one" - that implies that they do not any more...
So yes, to answer your comment in the PM the other night - your English could indeed use some work

Joking aside, I suspect its not popular due to the cost (over 200 euro's for the full board + CSI) and limited availability, a pity as its pretty good value when stacked up against the cost of DMD + MFU + TBU, with the extra added bonus that the boards are small enough to fit without looking too out of place.
