Install video in Leopard 2.

I installed the Fat Shark video system in my HL Leopard 2. There is lots of room for this small component based system.
What you see in the pictures is all there is to it. This system has a price tag of about $225 and comes with a set of video goggles that moves you to the top of the turret when you put them on.
Fat shark now has a camera that has an SD card in it if you want to record your journey as well.
The servo used for rotating the camera I supplied and is hooked up to the proportional channel 6 on the HKT6A
I took it out in the yard to run it, and my wife threatened to snap chat the image of her doofus husband sitting on the couch with the video goggles, playing with his tank running somewhere in the backyard. Oh I also had earbuds in too. With this system the pick up mikes are the little buds you see on the side of the camera. This moves then away for the gears, and actually all I could hear were the tank sounds with next to no gear noise. This tanks has the bearinged up gear boxes and the noise from these is very low.
I did get video glitches though and annoying static intermittently. I am running this set up of the same battery as the tank electronics I may try a dedicated battery to see if helps with the electrical noise This is a 5.8 gHZ system .

Sweet.
I was going to wait for the Horizon system with head tilt, but if you get everything needed for $225, it may be more palatable since I need to buy at least two. The HH system is really light, but that's not important with our application and as you demonstrate, just a simple servo will pan.

This is an older Fat Shark. They have newer ones with better resolution and a wider angle of vision. The new goggles also have an SD slot to allow you to record easily. With my set up I have to hook up the goggles to a video capture device on my computer to record the action..
This technology is moving ahead and luckily there is a demand for it as RC'ers are enjoying the aspect of being on board their equipment. This combination means we could see some very interesting stuff become available.
They also make dome antennas, that could be used and less conspicuous than the standard antenna, in that it could be mounted on the roof of the turret, and be passed off as some type of ECM device.

I've tried running the fat shark in a traxxas emaxx and a 350QX (quadcopter) and had mixed results. As Dan has stated, the resolution isn't very good and especially with the emaxx
the picture went fuzzy with all the movement on a r/c truck going over jumps and rough terrian. Still very interesting and the price point isn't too bad.

Maybe wait and see what Immortal Hobbies is selling. I was going to buy another Fat Shark, but am curious as to what Curtis has going with Walkera. IF they are prepared to cater to the tank crowd, maybe they will incorporate features that appeal to us.
The limitations I see with the fat shark unit I have( V2 Predator)
Resolution is Ok but not great
Annoying glitches that effect audio and video. Not bad enough to spoil the effect, but still annoying. When this was happening in my Sherman I thought it was an antenna placement problem, so I purposely mounted the antenna in a prime spot on the Leopard, and I still have an issue. I am going to try a separte power source for the video equipment to day to see if this elimiates the problem

Horizon put out a nice video giving an overview of 5.8 stuff and it's limitations (none of which are that big of an issue for us).

Follow up on my Leopard 2
Some Leopards and Abrams have remote controlled MG. If a person Mounted the camera in the same place as these units are mounted, It would be pretty easy to disguise the camera as a Remote M.G.
This Leopard is loaded up. TBS, 15 watt amp, running on 12 volts, Battle system, on board video with a panning servo on the camera.
