Edit: added better pics
Greetings,
Year-long lurker, first-time poster here. Just built a Tamiya 1/16 2A6, and thought I'd share a few quick pics. I did take much advantage of other's posts here for ideas on the build. Wanted something different for the color, so went with a Desert scheme. It's close to a few 2A7 pics I found on the web, but I did this more to look good to my eye than replicate a real specimen.
Regarding the build. I've built 4 or 5 other 1/16 Tamiya Tanks (Tigers, Gepard, etc.). This kit is head and shoulders superior in design and engineering. The turrent rotation bearing, the turrent and recoil motor designs, and the general layout are all top-notch. The new gear box drives ultra-smooth, and steering in particular is a breeze with this design. Just a fun, fun build all around. I added Impact metal swing arms and the idler adjustment kit. I've got a set of metal tracks for this, but haven't installed them yet; the stock resin tracks are decent enough.
The fiber optic lighting was a bit tricky, and I installed the Impact rotating beacon, and tied it into the LED for the main headlights. When you turn on the main headlights, the beacon also turns on. Anyway, worked mostly well except every time I fired the main cannon, the flash-unit would change the beacon light programming. After a bit of head scratching, I install a filter capacitor across the beacon connection and soldered the 3rd programming wire to ground. This solved the problem. The beacon stays on my desired setting (fast rotate) during main gun firing.
Anyway, can highly recommend this kit. Here's a few pics of my fantasy camo scheme. My iphone pictures don't begin to do justice to how this looks in person. Took a day just to do the pin-wash (using Citadel Sepia) into the panel lines. For the wire reel, I used silver thread and wound it up with my drill. I do wish I could get better photos, I may pull out the DSLR in a day or two. Thanks again to all who posted here with ideas, I used many of them all the way.

Yeah, the staple-and-chain assembly of the smoke launchers was fun. I read ahead in the manual, and recycled the staples from the Tamiya bags. They're the perfect size for this job.
