Can We Get This Speaker Thing Figgered Out?
OK, Men, the subject today is speakers, and yours truly is willing to play guinea pig. Here's the first ones I'm looking at
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-2-5-inc...item2340fc96d9
and also these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-New-3-i...item2591e9b15c
So does anyone have any other recommendations and the reasons for them? Like, 4 ohm or 8 ohm, and why? The Asp has a 20 watt amp so I kinda want to stay away from the 3 watt jobs, trying to stay at a minimum of 10 watts. The first pair is rated for 15 watts. Those cheap Mato speakers made a big difference, maybe something like this will be even better. The Asp can run three speakers but most tanks will only use one, so if we can figger this stuff out I'll buy a couple and then see about the best way to mount them. Maybe explore speaker boxes or one thing I've wanted to explore, and that is mounting the speaker to the bottom of the upper hull.
You know the drill, fellas ... advice, comments, crude remarks, pretty girls' phone numbers, we want them all.

If you connect a 4 ohm speaker to an audio circuit that has an output impedance of 8 ohms you could possibly damage the audio circuit by drawing too much current through it. It would be nice if the various manufacturers would list the output impedance of the audio circuits.

I ordered a bunch of these on the cheap.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pcs...727094939.html
They're the same size & impedance as HL, but 3 watts, which is what Taigen and a few other people have listed as high power / improved speakers. They scream and have way better sound (the Taigen 'new' speakers I mean) compared to HengLongs stock 0.5w... plus they fit in the regular HL speaker box. Once they arrive I'll test em and see if they measure up.

So what if you connect an 8 ohm speaker to a 4 ohm outfit?
Great stuff, Strato, I'll be watching closely how your speakers work out. I notice that it says they're bass speakers. I've heard that bass speakers are better for tanks. The ones I listed above are both full range. Any thoughts on that, guys? BTW, Strato, you should get those pinions soon, I mailed them this past Monday.

Of all the speakers I have tested the best are Aura

The one inch speaker will out perform anything else In its size
You can hook up a greater ohm speaker with no fear. If you go lower then the rated ohms you can overdrive the amp and cook it. It will be louder, for awhile though. IF the ASP has 20 watts you shouldn't have to worry about volume.

I have been playing around with speakers too in the last couple weeks, one thing i found out is you have to enclose the speaker if you want good sound! So when your considering any speaker factor in the enclosure or box too when you fit it in the tank, I have even used a plain foam coffee cup and the speaker will sound twice as loud and 10 times better! Most speakers I've tried without a enclosure of some kind sounded like crap

Yeah, I'll bite. I just ordered two of the one inch and one of the two inch. I'll replace the stock speakers in the T1 with the Asp with these speakers and we'll see what happens. That's another thing I found that I really like about the Asp, I can connect three speakers to it and it really makes a difference just using stock TG and Mato speakers, with something decent it should sound really great. The Asp has a 20 watt amp built in so it's got all the power I'll ever need.

I'm gonna pair the aura 2" with the taigen and see what happens , the taigen sound pretty good but is lacking some bass , I paired another speaker with the stock taigen and it sounded awesome but it was to big for the available space left in my tiger I,a 2" x 2" speaker is absolutely a perfect fit for the tiny space I have left, Gary where exactly are you going to place yours?

Well now I'm interested too. Dan how do these compare in dimensions to a stock speaker box? Would you indulge me and post a side by side picture?
I'd love some REAL boom from a few of my tanks, in which space is very limited.. think Panzer 3 or any Japanese tanks... anything much bigger than the HL speaker box won't really make it in there.

With Speakers the more surface area the better. The one inch Aura are good when space is limited, Ie the T-34, but you should always try and fit the biggest speaker that you have space for.
I don't have any sitting out. I have them mounted in tanks right now. However the foot print is no bigger then the Stock speakers, but they may be slightly deeper.

ONCE YOU GET THE SPEAKER out of the enclosures , they will not sound anywhere near as good as when they are inside the enclosure, so unless you can get the enclosure inside the tank ? dont waste your time and maybe ruin a nice bose speaker

LOL I has some really nice Altec Lansing Computer speakers. I ruined them thinking the speaker was the key to good sound. It wasn't. It is a lot of things all working together. So far here is what have found out.
1. Bigger speakers produce better low end bass response, plain and simple.
2. 12 volts driving an amplifier will improve the sound on any system immensely. Good, loud ,clear sound takes voltage. An amplifier that can handle up to 18 volts will deliver results.
3. Exciters used in conjunction with a good speaker can produce ground shaking effect, but an exciter on its own just isn't loud enough. However the tank itself must be constructed to handle the vibration, as things rattling will diminish the effect

I also ordered the samsung 8 ohm, 15 watt full range speakers, since they were only $11 for two, including shipping, so I'll have something to compare.. Yeah, right, to compare. Not just to have more toys. Well, it sounded good at first.
This is a side view of the Samsung. I guess I'll have to build boxes for these, but they're only 2.5 inches so it shouldn't be difficult.

hey Gary FOR SURE you will need some kind of enclosure , they really suck without one, even if you use a foam solo cup , they sound dramatically better !
But a hard plastic enclosure would be even better ...
