Yes, forums are a target for ads, the admin can put up an adblocker for the site. Terrible... but fixable.

I have had an issue with this a couple of forum sites I have build and the first thing I do is put up an ad blocker.

Adblockers are ok, but too many adblockers is what causes extreme ideas like here on RCU I actually have my adblocker turned off for sites I support as I know that is how they make money. I advertise myself for IMEX, Taigen, and for a good friend of mine so I have felt first hand the pros and cons. I actually wouldn't mind at all a monthly/yearly subscription to support the forums and remove them, but it doesn't seem I have that option at this time. I'm still waiting on a PM to clarify that option.

Well they've not only implemented embedded adverts they now have flyover/ float over/ popups as well.

Nothing to me is more aggravating than flyover popup ads - accursed things should be outlawed...

I can go in the mode where I wander over here just to see what's new and what's trending and simply stay away
to avoid the nuisance factor. It seems to me the German and British sites aren't as rife with this sort of thing.. yet.

RCU may well just shoot itself in the foot over adverts... there still is that prevailing feeling that all things on the open 'net should be free; rightly or wrongly and anything that deviates from that just won't be tolerated long or well.

I can think of only one sort of media advert that is number One Evil / aggravating beyond this web sort; truly beyond the pale - embedded ads that I can't bypass on a movie dvd that I purchased... completely unforgivable...

I used my Iphone and the formatting was fine, but on my Ipad it was horrible. I wonder what gives with that. Maybe this is a user issue, and you just need to set up your user device. Does an Iphone automatically load up a different version??? I would have thought with the small screen on my Iphone this problem would be even worse then my Ipad, but I was presently surprised to see it was fine.

I am not really interested in spearheading an exodus from RCU, and if this issue is something that can be resolved I would much sooner go that route. So if an RCU admin can give us some help with this it would be appreciated, IF my I phone is fine then my Ipad should be to, and some of us just need to be educated on how to set up our devices to help with this problem.

Again I have no problem with advertising, it is when it is inserted into a thread and screws up all the formatting where it bothers me.
