M4 90v

I've been gathering parts and researching for this build for some time now. Now I've got enough parts to start the build. The M4 90V is the Sherman with a Pershing Turret prototype. This build is 90% Taigen parts mixed with a little Mato, and will be Taigen IR capable.
I spent what time I had last night trial fitting parts, so here it is.

It's not all bolt-on though. The transmission cover doesn't quite fit over the V2 gearboxes, and will need a little dremmel work. Also, the Mato sprockets will need to be modified to accept the Taigen screw.

I know it may be a little pricey but the HL turret for the Pershing looks so far from scale due to the over sized airsoft barrel. You may want to look into a Tamiya M26 turret and gun. It would look much better. Very cool idea but even in this photo the gun looks almost cartoonish. No put down here I really like the idea just think there is a better alternative.

Most of that is an optical illusion from the camera only being a few inches from the muzzel. Either way, I also have a plan to add recoil to the barrel and it's getting cut off.

Looks like a cool project.
I cant get the thumbnail to blow up though. I have noticed that every first post in a thread has an ad in the post, and if there are pictures they wont enlarge.

Update time.
I spent the last couple nights grinding away at the transmission cover so the 4:1 gears would fit. Once that was done, it still had loads of tension on the left sprocket. Upon further inspection, I found that the main shaft on the lower motor was rubbing on the left gearbox.

My fix was to use my Dremel to drill a small divot on that spot to allow the shaft to spin freely. The other scratches are from the motor leads. They had to be bent out to keep them from touching the right gearbox too. I also put some electrical tape on those spots just in case.
After that, the lower hull went together in a breeze! With easy turning gearboxes!

Don't mind the gun. The turret innards were scavenged to convert my cousin's non S&S HL Tiger to Taigen electronics.
Now, I'm just waiting on the rest of my turret parts to show up.

It showed up today, and I'm looking at it now. Looks like I'll need to learn how to solder to get this old style recoil unit working, since they don't come with cables attached.
Erik, what color/brand of green does Taigen use on the M4? I'd like to match the turret to the hull while it's apart.
Thanks for all your help! This project wouldn't be happening without your help!

The current barrel is getting cut off at the mantlet. I haven't decided on if I want to just reuse it or make my own.

Roboticus_Prime: Sorry for the late response, If you would like to give me a call at 512-878-8500 or 800-610-4294 that would be great. This way I can better help you with paint choices. By the way, your Sherman looks great, Well done fellow tanker

The clsoest to tht green color is tamiya OD wtih gloss sprayed over it. Darkens it up, but its a tad to green just a by a smidge to be accurate, but I like it.
Testors OD 34087 oversprayed with gloss is very popular and my first choice, but its very different color from your stock tank.
I reccomend you paint the entire tank. So it all matches. Then do any kind of shading and. Weathering to highlight or darken.

Also, I hear you're a go to guy for wiring up the old Heng Long recoil units?

I have one, and it sucked, it was more of a barrel launcher. I use servo recoil in my tanks.
the HL recoil is so dissapointing. It works backwards, it slowly comes back and then pops forward, on mine the barrel would fly out after the second firing, so i disconnected it.
imho, best thing to do is use the mount, modify and chop and add a servo that runs on a good aftermarket electronics system.
sorry, not any help I know...

First things first. I had to clean up the lower half of the turret to make room for the recoil unit and slip ring.
Before:

After:

Next up, since I managed to break the airsoft LED in my Pershing, I decided that I'd swap the barrels, and use the busted one to modify for recoil and IR.

I'm currently hacking the 90V's barrel and formulating how I'll mod it. I'll let you know what I come up with!
I really should paint the Pershing...
