Nice build Darkearth74, it is definly Chris Ludwig's Panther F kit. It is good to see how easy his kits go together. Are you going to use Tamiya running gear?

looking good. If you're doing a Panther II, then the running gear should be from a King Tiger, right?

It looks like the driver and radio operators hatches you have are for a Panther A. The Panther II hull has Panther G hatches. Check out this site for photos of the Panther II hull on display at the Patton Museum before it was moved to Fort Benning. I atteached one of the photos of the hatches as well.

Yes philiphat,kt running gear, ill be using parts sprues from the kt ,jagdpanther ,and panther for external detail,as for the hatches ,muas45, i countacted chris late last night because you sparked my curiosity about the panther a hathes, the answer he gave me was very long and detailed and made perfect sense to me,i will try to to tell you as best as i can.the panther 2 that i am building was an very early design ,designed before the panther a actually went into production ,so certain apsects would be the same as the panther a ,such as the driver and radio operators hatches, I beilieve the panther 2 at fort knox was built when the panther g went into production,so by that time certain revisions had been made,so in affect that panther 2 is closer to a mid production, and the panther 2 that i am currently building would be the initial concept, wich when you think about it makes perfect sense .

hi

I m happy to see this kit build here :-).

About the hatches, sure the one frankenstein hull in the museum shows something diverent. but is this a real panther II? no. or better not as it was desined during the Panther A/D produktion.
The real panther II hull should be a lidel longer and should have diverent armor angels as the Panther G and F models have.
the Panther II is diverent in a lot of point in compartaion to the G hulls.
it is somethin like the missin ling between the early panthers and the kintiger desin.
After the Ingernes calculatetd a down time of panther produktion of 6 month if the panther II had to start produced, the Panther II was canceled.
and as most as posible of the developing went into the G model and F.

so in developing order it was : Panther A/D .........Panther G, panther F

.................................................. .........Panther II
.................................................. ..........................Kingtiger

Also the turret of the panther II is longer as the developed F model

you can see the drawing compared in the pancer tracts books, there are realy nice drawings wer you cansee most diverence.

hope i could help a bit :-)

cu christian

Nice to see one of these actually get built on the Internet.

We ALL know the Panther II that WAS at the Patton museum was the only known chassis/hull that survived the war. That turret and the driver & radio hatch area are from a G Panther... because NO Panther II turret (Schmale Blende) was ever constructed. Panther F turrets (Schmalturm) were built but that was not for the Panther II.

The Panther II hull hatches DID resemble those of earlier Panthers (A & D).

The Panther D was the first built... then the Ausf.A (Panther I's) and THEN the Panther II was to take place but was cancelled. The G series soon followed and then the F never (as far as we know) was assembled but hulls and turrets were constructed.
