Object 279

I just came across this, not sure how, lol found it kind of interesting.
Object 279 Kotin[1] (Объект 279 Котин) was a Soviet experimental heavy tank developed at the end of 1959.
This special purpose tank was intended to fight on cross country terrain, inaccessible to conventional tanks, acting as a heavy breakthrough tank, and if necessary withstanding even the shockwave of a nuclear explosion. It was planned as a tank of the Supreme Command Reserve.

Theres a couple of 1/35 offerings of this in the past few years.
It'd make an interesting build, two HL KV donor hulls, a 1/35 kit for reference and some styrene stock and you could pull it off for $3K less.

Actually, that's quite the masterpiece, I've seen it up close. Everything works and the detail is first rate. Belongs to a Moscow tank club member so guaranteed the item will ship if anyone buys it.

Oh, I don't know. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and whomever has the $$$ and wants it will own it. No matter what it's truly worth to you or me.

Hi everyone
What price you think is approriate for this model?
You can hardly imagine how much time was spent on modelling and building... everything it the model is manually built and assembled.
The only ingeneer genius 2-speed 2- diff gearbox is a miracle. While turning EVERY track moves with it's special speed (and it's speed was calculated). Even original tank had disadvantage - no diffs on track pairs, so it could hardly turn.

It's going to sell whatever someone is willing to pay for it but...
... maybe more images of WHY the price is higher than what your average RC tanker is used to. I mean, the description does elude to the fact that there is something different in the drivetrain but maybe it can show more proof what went into it.
I think, that if I had the money and wanted it bad enough I would get more pictures before I made the purchase because it IS one of a kind and extremely nice!
Just my opinion!

The Obj. 279 is by far my favourite tank, I've had the pie in the sky dream of having one in 1/16 for years.
But I think 3000 dollars is a bit much for something that's 3d printed. Power to the creator though, good to see people really starting to take advantage of 3d printing.

I've thought about building one but the shape of the hull and the suspension would have been a challenge for me. I built a US M28/T95 instead because I had a lot of Sherman spare parts.

Having seen this model up close and personal I can fully understand the volume of research that went in to the model. The only 279 in existence that I know of is in Kubinka Museum near Moskau, therefore the builder had to first get permission to measure and photo every aspect of the object. That alone is not easy to say the least. Then there is design work plus planning an entirely different drive train than the prototype so the model can actually turn, unlike the prototype. Another vast undertaking. When I look at some computer printing parts makers and see a few tiny parts going for 10 or 15 bucks I can extrapolate the effort that went in to simply 'printing' out this vehicle. Toss in the many hours of design, the ground up design of the drive system with differentials for each track to keep it's speed both straight line and turning I can see the cost and then some. If anyone thinks they can do this model for a better price then go for it. I'll even support your visa application as needed so you can start the research.

What price you think is appropriate for this model?

Exactly and my point. More images of what it took to create this machine are lost on those few posted that we see.
That and the uniqueness of the project, the fact that it IS printed but the mechanics & engineering that it took need to be shown so that is fully understood WHY the price is where it's at!

What I was trying to say (without all that diarrhea of the mouth I just typed) was the images supplied don't do it any justice! LOL!!!!
But you figured it out.
