Default 9/15-17 AAF Danville - Rolling Thunder Event

Here are some pictures from the event at AAF this past weekend. It was put on by the guys from ACE. If you can identify the people/picts please feel free to do so.

Sorry, couldn't get them so I could caption them. At least they are up.

The last one is my birthday present to myself; any guesses?

See ya,

Pat

Thanks for posting the pics Pat. Was nice to see you and Colin on the battlefield again. For those wondering what the different colored vests are, they identify CO and XO for each team.

Thanks Bret; we had a great time. I wish I could have posted the pictures so that they could be identified but I had enough trouble getting them up there. I may try to edit later on in the week.

Great job, Pat. I really enjoyed the photos, especially the kid in the helmet and camo overalls.

I hope your present to yourself is in the Tamiya box, Pat, cuz I'd hate to think you bought a 4 channel radio! I'm quite certain you could find uses for several extra channels on any number of tanks, even if it's just for volume control. I can't see myself ever buying a radio with less than six channels, and the Hetzer is quickly using up all the extra channels in my 10 channel flysky.

Thumbs up

Those are great pictures Pat, thanks for soldiering through and posting them!

So... a new Tamiya tank huh? I can't see the product code under the bar code. Glad the Tiger and PIV issues got ironed out.

Gary, you just don't really need more than 4 ch for a Tammy. I've seen too many operators with aftermarket boards and 5-10 ch TX's spend the weekend figuring out why their elevation isn't working. Volume control, remote MG, etc all cool but for battling I always recommend streamlining your tank for ease of maintenance and easier trouble shooting if anything were to go south.

Yeah... battling is one thing, touring around the garden with the cat and showing off is another. I can see maybe a 6 channel to have a little bling, but anymore than 4 and it's not good.

The Tiger ran great all weekend. Had some elevation issues but my son worked through them (he is a monster in that thing). I watched him go 2+ on one a few times and survive. I was proud of how he interacted with everyone and how he is starting to trouble shoot on his own when he has issues. It was his second trip there and he loves it.

The PzIV is still a work in progress; she has her new board but isn't ready for battle. I had a blast driving her on the battlefield when nothing was going on. I found out that it is really easy to roll over (it has the scars to prove it, lol). I have no recoil and the barrel led light isn't flashing when it fires. A very kind gentlemen named Green Amphibian (lol) had me tear down my turret and showed me how to fix the led (which he gave me) and how to add a servo for my elevation. That will be another project one of these weekends. If I can get those two things fixed I believe I just need to order an apple base from OKC and she will be ready to battle.

The box nondescript box contains a KT: I love that tank and would have been disappointed with anything else. I have ordered the new tension hardware, elevation arm and will be ordering different drive motors in the near future. Hopefully I can do justice to the build.

For the battle tanks the 4 channel radios work just great and they are basically plug and play. I like buying them from AAF to support them.

See ya,

Pat

Nice photo's of the event. The wife & I enjoyed driving around the 1/16th world on Friday and the informal battles on Saturday morning. This was our little Sherman's first outing and it did really good other than the gun elevation got stuck once.
It was great to finally meet Bret who was so helpful with the radio set-up and also seeing Herman as always was enjoyable, A very welcoming group of tankers (even though they were out to kill us!)
I decided to "opt" out of the Rolling Thunder event after Jake's briefing laying out the rules, as a new tanker it was overwhelming! We may try and make it to the fun-run in November just to get some more casual battle experience.

Larry & Brenda
