Smile My Jeep collection

I have always liked Jeeps and have collected a few models of various scales over the years. Here are some photos of those scales ----- they are 1/87. 1/18, 1/16, 1/10+/-, 1/6, and another large scale Jeep that I just got.

1/87

1/18

1/10 ??? Gas powered Cox engine, not r/c

1/16

1/6

And a full size 1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep ----- and it's R/C !!! ----- (Rex controlled)

Thank goodness it fits ----

Now that is nice! Put in a Clark board and sound card and yer all set...

I devoured the Ballantine war series paperback book "Jeep", and was dying to get one and restore it as a young, foolish kid. I wish I had stayed foolish. Sigh...
Nice that it's a Willy's, too.

Great collection, Rex. I'd really like to see video of that gas powered scale Jeep in action. And you're a very lucky man to have a one-to-one Jeep in your garage. That's a vehicle that I have long wanted to acquire and never managed to do so.

I never thought I would have a real Jeep, but my sons knew I liked them and one of them found out about a collector who had a numerous collection of military soft skins. The guy wanted to sell one of his Jeeps in order to get something else, so John negotiated a deal and called me to ask --- "Hey pops, do you have room in your garage for another vehicle?" He had it shipped to me from Tennessee, and it is fully equipped with all of the equipment and accessories that were originally supplied with it, including a siren. I'm going to pretend it was going to be General Pattons' Jeep after WW 2.

Good job on the whole raisin' fine sons thing! You must have been a pretty good Pop. My Gramps drove one of those over large parts of Germany in the late 40s and I've built a couple models of them, and he was always meticulous about how the pioneer tools should be arranged and what should be included. That guy had lots of good stories, just one of which was how he sat in King Ludwig's throne. Being a driver for the brass could have it's own privileges.

So how does it drive? Have you done any mild off-roading with it?

Nice collection Rex! They are all nice, but I like the 1:1 scale one the best. I'm going to show my son, how cool your son is.

It drives like the greatest fun you can have with your clothes on --- I like the windshield down when I take neighbors for a ride around the the block. They all want to turn on the siren. It definitely gets a lot of attention. What ---- off-roading??? Good grief man, that will get it dirty!!! It will never see the freeway either, just the residential streets around here. The canvas seats are small and slippery, and the first time I drove it I darn near fell out of it when I made a right turn without having the seat belt on. Yikes !!!! I used to caution my son about the way he spent his money. I was wrong and will never say another word about that.

Here's my son in it a few months ago

Here he is in his M38 when he was a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne. (35 years ago)

That is so cool Rex. You must have been a very good dad.

The only off road driving I would do in that sweet baby, would be to park it on a lawn to display it.

Very nice collection. I think if they tried to build the jeep today they would have to be larger (20 - 30%) . Your son barely fits in the Jeep!

The Ft. Snelling museum restored a jeep like that. The unit also used it for change of command ceremonies and special events. I only got to drive it once since it was always kept in a maintenance tent so it stayed clean. The clutch was...really different than anything I ever drove. Very nice one you have there. Always wanted an M39 Weasel to play with...

I think your son is driving an M151 "Mutt" which is a whole other shade of jeep coolness!

Nicely done Rex, wonderful collection.

I am still in saving mode for a jeep - they are rather expensive over here in Blighty!

Indeed. Someone around here has a blue one. I see him driving it around. He uses it as his daily driver.

One of my 2 1/16 jeeps. The other is in pieces being rc'd.

my army vehicles were my daily drivers for years till i had to use a company vehicle in recent years. Now they just sit.
