Default Need Mato Sherman exhaust grille

Hi guys, I need the Barber Coleman exhaust grill from a Mato M4a1 76 Sherman to complete my build. The only place I know of one was on that mato model and I never saw them as spare parts. I need it to finish off this model http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-t...d-mongrel.html
If I could get one I would make a mold and cast it up to have spares.

Would a 3D print work?

The mato one was pretty good. I owned one comeplete tank that i redetailed and sold and I should have tsken that grill and recast it before i sold it, oh well.

Bugger, I can't find one in my big box of sherman bits either. Hopefully Frank's at the club meeting on Sunday, he's bound to have at least one that I can measure...
Failing that there's one in the M32 ARV kit I have here, but the ratio of width to height looks wrong compared to your photo.
(and given that the kit represents an entirely fictitious big hatch M4A1 conversion, I have little faith in the accuracy of the rest of it)

Do you know if M4's had them as well?

No, I think they were only on PSC built m4a1s from 43and later. I dont think the other small hatch A1mfrs like Lima and PCF used them..... but i could be wrong. Pretty darn sure no M4s had them.

Had a look at my copy of 'Son of Sherman Vol 1' - there is some ambiguity around the last days of small hatch production (which is maybe around where my M32 would have been as a remanufactured early hull, issued as a replacement for an M31 TRV to 4AD after Normandy?) but I think you are generally right - the Chrysler big hatch 105's would have had them, but the earlier small hatch examples would have had the sheet metal deflector - annoyingly the book doesn't have dimensions for either >.<

FRANK?!?!?!?!

I have a Mato one I can measure for you. I don't want to part with it, as it's my only one, but I can give you dimensions in English or Metric...

Apart from the imperial units (pro tip - even the UK don't use them any more - despite any 'so called Brexit' nonsense you may have heard :P ) yeah I think that will help

I'll update the CAD in the morning

Can't wind me up on the whole metric thing. I use more metric in the US than standard anymore especially on cars. All new cars are pretty much metric now. I even have a set of metric drill bits. Now those were a pain to find in the US...

Odd. I walked in to Homeless Depot 25 years ago and bought a complete set of Metric bits, used them for years and got the replacement bits for those that wore out from HD also.

I hate Imperial measurements and I was taught them in school. I personally use the metric system for all but speed and temp. Bossman hates when I give him metric measurements. If you get measurements from me most likely it will be metric No complaints here!

Um, beyond imperial, i do most of my measurments in thousandths of an inch. Its most used in the model RR hobby and machining.

Ok Ex Pat, let us know when they are ready and cost. Thanks!

Will do Rich. I'll be putting them on with a bunch of my US field kitchen stuff, so will probably take a few days.

Why settle for a solid lump when you can have a functional grill?

I still need to come up with more robust mounting points tho - going down the 'scale' route looks all fine and dandy when you are zoomed-in in CAD, but when you come to prise the finished part off the printer its not so useful...

That looks great! I gave you the thousands of an inch measurements because I do model RR stuff too, so that seemed the most accurate system to use for this. I can see you translated my American quite well.
