Default Beware of emails from paypal

Today I got an email that said it was from paypal, they said there was suspicious activity on my account (even though I can't find any activity at all, suspicious or otherwise) and I was directed to a new page, where they asked for my credit card number. That sounded strange to me so I tried to call paypal, only to find their customer service line is closed because of the corona virus. The whole thing sounds like a scam to me, so if you get a similar email you should email paypal and NOT fill out the form asking for your credit card info. I sent a message and now I'll wait to hear back, and will post the results. Paypal is supposed to be safe, so this really concerns me. Has anyone else ever received an email from paypal that asked you to provide credit card info?

Update ... In the original email they said my account activity has been limited and I won't be able to send or receive money, so to test that I sent five bucks to a buddy and it went through with no problem. This gets stranger by the minute.

It's not curious at all.

It's a scam, dont click it, dont follow the links, ignore it and login through the app or web site only.

If you want to send any more test money I'll give you my address

Whenever I receive an email like this I forward it to the fraud mailbox account ( 'Phishing' or 'Spoofing' account) of whatever company is supposed to have
sent the suspect email. In the very rare instance that it's an authentic email they will usually notify you. So far I've only found legit email of this type and
it was just a confirmation of notification choices.

Spammers, Phishers and fraudsters usually capitalize in times of turmoil or confusion hoping to catch us off guard. Don't fall for them

Also and many of you have already done this no doubt; mostly a suggestion for those who run Microsoft boxes. Ensure that the ID you use on your PC
to wander around the web and answer email is NOT a administrator level ID on your box. Ensure it has minimal 'powers' on your PC and keep the Administration
functions as a separate ID. This way if you wander into the wrong website or click some link in that bogus email whatever malware is launched will not
be running with the authority of an admin... hopefully limiting the damage they can do...

Yeah, let's see if my paypal is working also but add a zero to mine & address it to 'Family or Friends' (so paypal doesn't charge you).

Thanks for the positive replies, I emailed paypal but they're operating on a skeleton crew due to covid 19 so it might take a while to hear back. For those that asked for money, I'm sending it now, I want you to go sit in front of your computer and wait for it to arrive.

Hi Gary
Shouldn't you be asking them to hold their breath while they wait, too?

More seriously, will keep an eye out for this, agree with reporting it to the Paypal spoof email.
