Borked my KV-1 intake grills
I tried my hand at opening up the Heng Long KV-1 intake grills and replacing them with screen.
Not happy with the result. I can't get the screen to stay in place. It really needs to be trapped by a perimeter border like on the real thing.
I've sent an email to Toucan Hobby to see if I can get replacements.
I think this will work better with brass photoetch mesh. I've ordered some off of Amazon.

Looks like the screen should be "under" the frame, you have it over. The cross braces should be above the screen, I think mounting it that way would look a lot cleaner as the frame will hide the edge of the screen.

I did some research on other people's KV-1 builds on this forum, and the conclusion from original sources was that the grill was on top of the main arched spars, but under the perimeter border (the "keeper").
I have modeled it up in CAD and the mesh printed surprisingly well. Unfortunately it keeps breaking when I try to separate it from the raft. I am currently doing a print with the entire object suspended on supports and this should fix that problem. I'll have pictures soon. I'll throw it up on Thingiverse after I get a good print.

These are the intake grill covers I made for my Panther G using window screen material. I got a window screen repair kit at a hardware store. It's fiberglass, not metal, so I cut it with scissors. It flexes easy and the repair kit has enough screen to last a lifetime of modeling. It glues down in place easy too.

I tried plastic and metal window screen. Problem is getting the ends to terminate cleanly on the plastic part. The wire screen would fall apart (wires fell off). Might have been able to make vinyl screen work.
However, these 3D printed parts turned out great.
