Which way do I push the switch on the Heng Long Pershing to make it smoke?
I filled it with aerosol but no smoke is coming out.
Also, how do you clear the cannon or make it load to fire BBs?
I got my tank today and the main cannon worked for about five shots, and now the cannon fires (you can feel air come out) but no BBs shoot.
Otherwise the tank runs fine. Proportional controls seems to work fine, runs and turns well. Turret works, barrel elevation works, sound and lights work well.
Thanks,
Chris

I wish I knew about the smoke, but it sounds like something that only your Chinese manual can tell you.
...better learn to read Chinese. Did the tank come with aerosol? [sm=confused.gif] Where will you get more? Does it pour into some sort of tank inside your tank?
Clear the cannon? I don't know, but mine is doing the same thing....sound and air, but no projectile. [:-] Maybe a straightened coat hanger would help.
[:@]....................yours has smoke and sound............its better than mine! [sm=angry.gif]
Try a video, today.

I can't take video unless you get excited about a mission in my living room.
I'll try to make a basic functions video.
It's WI, snow and slush. It will ruin the tank.
The cannon started working now, must have had a BB jammed and came free. Shoots about 20 feet. Not very powerful, but who cares it shoots. I wasn't looking to retake Omaha Beach with the airsoft.
It has enough velocity to tip over a empty soda can at 15 feet.
Smoke still does not work. The tank comes with a big bottle of aerosol. Enough for about 10 hours of use according to the manual. But mine ought to last forever since it won't smoke. [&o]
The directions tell you where the smoke switch is, but not which way to flip it to smoke. I tried both sides but it never did it after ten minutes. I filled it up (I think it filled) in the little hole in the back where it says to fill. I'm not sure if any got into the reservoir though or if the reservoir is leaking cause the crap got all over the outside of the tank and everytime I pick it up it has that goop all over the bottom and back of the tank.
The "aerosol" looks to be the same clear liquid you buy for model trains that smoke. I'm sure it is. So if the smoker ever works I can get it at any hobby shop.
I have to say I love this tank. It looks awesome, very detailed. HUGE size is great, functions are cool. I want a S&S Tiger now, but only if I can have the company guarantee me a grey one.
For $77.42 shipped it is quite the machine.
On a scale of 1-10 in my R/C experiences over the past 20 years I'd give it a solid 8 for functions and the incredible price value.

Well, mear moments after typing the last reply the gremlins attacked my tank.
The turret has stopped working. Completely. First it stopped turning to the right but would turn left fine. Then it stopped completely. No motor sounds at all.
The sound card plays the turret sound when you use the radio, but the tank's turret does nothing.
Boo hoo.
Here's a good thing though. When the turret stopped working the cannon started firing perfect. And really hard too. Really far shots of 50 feet every time you hit the up trigger.
Who knows huh? I shut it down, maybe it will start working again later. Not sure what could have gone wrong with it.
Anyone know how to take the turret off?

I JUST put mine back together. Since my gun was not firing, I decided to have a look inside of the turret.
In order to disassemble the tank and get to the turret motor and gun, you have to first remove both of the tracks. You can push out a pin, but I simply tugged on the side of the track and turned the drive wheels by hand. Once the tracks are removed, unscrew the long screws (1 in front and two in back), and then take out the six short screws (were blocked by the tracks before you removed them).
That should allow you to separate the bottom of the tank from the top, but the wires will still be attached to both, so you cannot move the sections very far apart unless you intend to detach the wires (I did not). Now that the top is basically free, you can see the big, black gear that moves the turret. Three small screws hold it in place. I took those off to get to the gun (again, not disconnecting any wires). The turret is made of two parts (top and bottom
) connected by six medium-sized screws. I had to take them out to look at the firing mechanism, which was jammed with no less than 6 BBs! I ram-roded them out with the help of the end of an old fishing pole and a thin hex wrench. Now, my gun fires again, yeah! Although not as good as yours. [&o]
If your turret gear is not out of mesh (screws backed out?), then a wire may need to be soldered back in place. Surely, the motor is not burned up?!!
Anyway, the whole process of disassembly and reassembly took no more than 20-30 minutes, tops.
You should take a close look at that smoke tank while you have it opened up. Maybe you can seal any cracks or leaks.
Keep me posted! And yes, if you get the smoke to work, I would love to see a living room mission.
I really want to see what it is like!

I posted some stuff on the Heng Long German Forums. The Engish boards of course.
Those guys know a ton of stuff.
I guess my Pershing comes apart really easy and even has connectors so when I take the hull apart it just snaps the wires apart! Woohoo!
Check this link, all my stuff is under the same username. You can find me anywhere on the web under hpiguy.
They of course have tons of stuff about the Tiger since that is the sites focus.

UPDATE:
Took my tank apart.
All solder joints are good. The motor in the turret is good and runs if you hook power direct.
The plug is fine also.
There is a defect in the circuit board somewhere. As when you turn the controller for the turret, the sound card comes on as if the turret is spinning, but no voltage is sent to the motor to turn the turret.
Also, the smoke pump is no good. It does not run at all. Nothing I tried would make it run.
So the turret turning and smoke pump is shot.
The tank has been run for 30 minutes total. And two major features have failed. Actually one never worked to begin with.
These defects will lower my rating of this tank to a 6. It would get a 2, but the super cheap price and the awesome LOOKS of the tank hold it up there. But this will be my last Heng Long. I'll look into the Marui, Vs and Tamiya tanks in the future.
We all have to learn on our own I guess. And to imagine this S&S is the "improved" model.
I wish Vs would make some 1/16th stuff............

Hpiguy, check out this link for possible replacement parts. It stinks to have to fix a brand new tank. [
] You could always get another one and use yours for replacement parts.

We must share a brain or something.
I bought the whole IC kit for $29.98.
For the price of the smoker block, and the receiver motor boards shipped the IC kit had the stuff I need PLUS three times as much stuff for the same exact price shipped.
Plus I'll have extra parts left over in case any thing else takes a poopy.
You could buy the IC kit and make yours an S&S too.

I could, but I already have a Smoking Snow Leopard on the way..........as well as the older version Tamiya Sherman and an M1 A1 Abrams.

This weekend, I'm ordering a replacement turret for my Tiger 1, as well as metal tracks.
I still plan to buy a new Tamiya Sherman kit, so that I can participate in the local tank battles, too.
I know, I'm a freak. I am going to have 1:16 scale tanks coming out of my ears!!!

GUYS:
From what I've read, the smoker comes pre-filled. You may have over-filled it, and it can't heat the huge load of fluid. This may also be causing a hyper-drain on the battery.
As for other failures, depending on where you got it, they should FIX it. Murphy Ma @ Mato Toys backs all his up. You could have a burned board, or a stripped gear, or any number of other problems.
If you don't read German or Chinese... Ask your questions on the Marui Tank Group (which is as much Hen-Long now as Marui)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MaruiTankGroup/
Tell the guys you're there for HL Pershing tips, they'll let ya right in.

Which M1 did you get?
The first tank that I ordered was delivered to the ether, apparently. FedEx seems to have no idea exactly where it went. [:@]
Since I am not a patient man, I ordered another tank (my Tiger 1), but I could not wait for it to arrive. So, I started talking to guys in the market place about trades for some of my other RC stuff. To make a long story short (too late!), I traded my E-Maxx for a used Tamiya Sherman that is not battle ready (but I want it anyway
) and I traded a park flier for an M1 A1 Abrams that I know nothing about. What can I say, it was late at night and I wanted a tank!!! Both of the guys seem to be older, very trustworthy people and the tanks are now in transit. Soon, I will have four!!!........and ironically, at the start of this fiasco, all I wanted to do was to join in on some electric tank battles, which none of these tanks are even equipped to do!!! [8D] Now, I have to buy the new Tamiya kit. My wife's gonna kill me. [&o]Since I made those two trade-deals, I also bid on a smoke and sound Snow Leopard on Ebay.

I think this is like the M1 that I got, only mine IS an M1. I know that it is not hobby-grade, but what the hay.....the plane was just hanging from my garage ceiling, anyway. [sm=tired.gif]

If you don't win the Ebay Pershing try www.egrandhobby.com Less than 80 shipped.
It's run by a guy named Shawn and he's in the states.
If your tank is crap like mine it's cheap to send it back, and no customs, no overseas or borders.
I called him tonight and he will take my tank back and exchange it. I'll keep the stuff I ordered as spares I guess or sell them off.

Remember that scene in National lampoons Christmas when Chevy chase gets all the lights hooked up and gets the family to watch the show when he flips the switch? Then nothing and the fit he has?! [>:][&:][:@][:'(][
]
That was me after waiting all day to get home from work to play with this thing and all it will do is flash it's lights on and off, on and off...I stared at it for oh 8 minutes or so ...checked batteries, switches, cursed some more. Ive posted for help on several boards and emailed Mato Toys ...I have their phone number I'll probably call them tomorrow..but this is just sad.

After you turned the tank on and the radio on did you hit the start switch?
Little button on controller, looks like a key?
You have to hit that to get the tank to "start" then when it drops into idle it will run.

thanks hpiguy for the input, yes I did hit the start switch, just went downstairs and tried it again.
One question, on the sender or the transmitter does yours have a tag taped to the crystal? at least I think thats the crystal it's on the bottom right of the controller labled 02 on mine and there is tag sticking out with a bunch of numbers on it ending in 02.
Funny thing about this tank with the quality issues, it seems to be built well enough , the remote seems solid not like the cheaper rc's like the newbrights ( which I have a couple) The tank looks great, lots of details, nice suspension and generally looks well built...to go to all this trouble for a company, then to make poor electronics...whats the logic.
RUN you dam bucket of plastic bolts !

Yes mine has that tag too. Just a long version of the tag that most radio companies fold over when they install the crystals.
The tank looks awesome because they copied Tamiya almost to the "T". They change a few tiny things so that they cannot get sued but otherwise on the outside it's the same machine from what I've been told.
Good luck with yours and keep us updated.

Okay Ive updated the whole tank story on the yahoo group but Ill give a quick update here
The problem was just the crystal inside the tank, once replaced everything worked great!
Now onto customizing and painting this baby

Glad to hear that you've resolved the running issues because I just this morning ordered the Pershing/Tiger pair for my brother and I for Christmas. Thank you Mom! Now there will be two 40-something year olds battling it out for family bragging rights.
I like the Panther too. Anyone have any recent experience with that one?

I finally received my Pershing from Raidentech. Everything is great except te gun doesn't shoot. I emailed Raiden, but they are unresponsive. I might just replace the gun on my own. Does anyone out there know where to get a replacement airsoft gun?
Thanks,

Here is an Ebay link for the gun firing mechanism, but it is in German:
http://search.ebay.de/_W0QQfrppZ50QQ...QQsassZasiatam
What does your gun do, nothing? Any sound or dry-firing? Mine had some of the yellow BBs stuck in the barrel and the gun would not shoot until I ram-rodded it with the end of a broken fishing pole.

I just got the Hen Long pershing no smoke. It drives ok, but doesn't shoot good at all. It jams easy, and gets double shots only going two feet or so. But the most disturbing info I just found out is, that the radio suppied with the tank is on 40 mhz, which is an illegal rc freq. here in the US. I have sent a message to Raiden Tech.
Anyone getting a Hen Long tank should check their Freq. I understand fines can be quite steep for running on an illegal Freq.
